National Tourism Development Authority (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second Stage (18 Oct 2022)

Brendan Griffin: ...morning. It was not my typical Monday morning. I took a couple of hours off to check it out with my former colleague, Jimmy Deenihan, and it was a marvellous experience. I also did some of the Tralee-Fenit greenway with my children when it opened last Saturday. Those greenways are beautiful and fantastic experiences that will definitely add to the county. Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Greenways Provision (17 Nov 2020)

Brendan Griffin: ...line. The point I made in this piece was that there are many opportunities in Kerry to develop a linked-up network. At the time, people told me that I was crazy and that the route between Tralee and Fenit would never happen but it is now under construction. The Limerick border to Listowel route is also under construction. The linking of Tralee to Listowel is now one step closer after...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Greenways Provision (17 Nov 2020)

Brendan Griffin: ...the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform is also here. The funding is very much appreciated and builds on work in recent years to get the network going in north Kerry, between Tralee and Fenit and between the Limerick border and Listowel. Funding was also allocated for the south Kerry greenway. On Thursday, we saw the fantastic decision by An Bord Pleanála to grant permission...

Covid-19 (Tourism): Statements (6 May 2020)

Brendan Griffin: ...where one is not contributing in a negative way to the lifestyles of people who live in those areas. The great southern greenway in Deputy Leddin's own county and into Listowel also has the Tralee-Fenit element. There is a great opportunity for all of that to be linked up and for further progress on the Deputy's side of the city and beyond. There is a massive opportunity there,...

Promoting Cycling: Motion [Private Members] (19 Dec 2018)

Brendan Griffin: ...and resurface that trail. I cycled it during the summer from the Devon Inn Hotel near Templeglantine up to Newcastle West. We hope to see that route extended all the way down to Kerry and out to the coast by Fenit. Kerry also has the south Kerry greenway along the world famous iconic Farranfore to Valentia line. These are great gifts from the past, especially the old railways. We...

Finance Bill 2017: Second Stage (Resumed) (25 Oct 2017)

Brendan Griffin: ...of canal banks, old railway lines and various other assets. In terms of old railway lines, I am particularly familiar with the south Kerry line from Farranfore to Valentia Harbour and lines from Tralee to Fenit and Kilmorna to Listowel. Not only are those assets available but we have an obligation to those gone before us who built those fantastic feats of engineering by hand to make the...

Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2017
Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised)
(29 Mar 2017)

Brendan Griffin: ...spent. Being a little parochial, I see the south Kerry greenway on the old Valentia to Farranfore railway line, which I have fully supported from day one, will need capital funding. Tralee to Fenit is queued and waiting for capital funding. Kilmorna to Listowel is too. We have great opportunity for a full network in Kerry. Throughout the country there are so many examples. What is...

Select Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: Estimates for Public Services 2017
Vote 31 - Transport, Tourism and Sport (Revised)
(29 Mar 2017)

Brendan Griffin: There were a number of planning issues with the south Kerry route. Until that is completed, there is still Tralee to Fenit, which is waiting, and there is Kilmorna to Listowel as well. There are other issues there but there are always issues with these things. If the funding is there, it would certainly help accelerate the projects.
