Seanad: Northern Ireland: Statements. (8 May 2003)

John Dardis: I commend the Minister, Deputy Dermot Ahern, on his contribution. It has been echoed by virtually every speaker and I will also echo it. There is nothing wrong with that, as it shows a unanimity of view and purpose within the Oireachtas which is welcome.

Committee on Public Petitions: Business of Joint Committee (11 May 2021)

Pat Buckley: I echo the Chairman's sentiments and those of the last speaker. I also echo the Chairman's remarks about the Ombudsman. The information was excellent. We need to engage like this. As I said a long time ago when I sat on the last committee, this is a very important committee. I thank the secretariat because it does a lot of work behind the scenes.

I have one question in that regard. On the working age payments-----

NAS does have this information available (June 2012) by its three operational areas which are set out below: NAS Area ECHO First Response within 8 minutes (Target 75%) DELTA First Response within 8 minutes (Target 75%) ECHO Transporting Vehicle within 19 minutes (Target 80%) DELTA Transporting Vehicle within 19...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Autism: Autism Policy: Discussion (Resumed) (25 Oct 2022)

Ms Aisling Byrne: I echo what Ms Kenny has said. A lot of people working in children's disability network teams are parents of children with additional needs themselves. I do not work for a children's disability network team directly, but I am one of them. I worked in disability services for 21 years and the burnout is unbelievable. People working there genuinely care and they want to...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (24 Jul 2020)

Erin McGreehan: I echo the concerns expressed by Senator O'Reilly on the serious issue of domestic violence. Women's Aid and Safe Ireland need resources and we need to work on preventing domestic violence and protecting women. I also echo Senator McCallion's contribution on cross-Border tourism. Last week, I stated that the North-South Ministerial Council should look at connecting and joining forces in...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children: HIV Incidence in Ireland: Discussion (1 Dec 2015)

.... I am not griping, but such media coverage, in terms of social responsibility, gives the impression that these issues do not exist outside of Dublin, so it does not help the centre. The Evening Echoin Cork is fantastic, as it gives great coverage to our testing programmes. I agree with Deputy Ó Caoláin that local media have a role to play. When the Evening Echocovers our...

Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Pre-Budget Engagement: Central Bank of Ireland and ESRI (19 Sep 2023)

Dr. Kieran McQuinn: I echo that. The unemployment rate in the aggregate for the period Dr. Keane referred to was still very high, about 30% at its peak. Since then it has been falling almost like a stone. It reached 4% in May 2022 and has been flatlining at that rate ever since. To echo Dr. Keane's point, it could be a timeliness issue. When we see the 2022 data, we will probably get a...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Energy Poverty: Discussion (23 May 2023)

...of work. I appreciate that this work will not actually capture the increase in numbers that we have had in the last year or two but it is a good place to start. It is a very interesting paper. I echo the call for further research. MABS would have data that could be used. The companies themselves would be able to see disconnections and for how long people were disconnected. I echo the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence: Syrian Conflict: United Nations High Commission for Refugees (26 Jan 2017)

...the European Union have been met. The European Union is fundamental partner to UNHCR and to many other UN agencies in the sense that the European Union is very much engaged through presence of ECHO offices in the region. We have a very close working relationship with them. It is not simply a pledge and then later a cheque comes. The ECHO offices are physically present in the region and...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Education and Skills: Reopening of Further and Higher Education Institutions: Discussion (8 Jul 2021)

...Minister and his officials very much want the return on campus but they also want it to be sustainable. I have emphasised ventilation and I would ask questions around that. The second observation echoes what Dr. Ó hÓgartaigh said, that the inclusive approach and the structure that has been set up be maintained. I know what the Minister will say but I would certainly ask the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform: Overview of Banking Sector: Permanent TSB (12 Nov 2014)

Mr. Jeremy Masding: I was not here, so mine is just a personal observation. I want to compete with the pillar banks. To echo the points made by Deputy O'Donnell and his colleagues, it is important that we provide innovation, drive and competition, and we will continue to do that. The point I was making was that Permanent TSB is still in turnaround. As a group, we will fix it and will...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: General Scheme of the Irish Prison Service Bill and of the Criminal Justice (Legal Aid) Bill: Discussion (3 Oct 2023)

Patrick Costello: I thank the witnesses who are before us today. I will try to keep this quite brief. I echo the comments of Senator Ward on the importance of legal aid. It is hard to overstate its importance. It frustrates me when I hear people in here - not members of this committee, which is perhaps quite telling - talking about how we spend too much on legal aid or saying legal aid should be provided...
