Other Questions: Foreign Direct Investment (24 May 2018)

Pat Breen: ...has a big city nearby, there is a magnet to attract companies into the big city of Cork. People want to work there and the talent is there because of the volume of big multinational companies. Apple has almost 6,000 people. People are going to travel a short distance and there is nothing we can do about that. People can choose the places where they can get good jobs. I understand the...

Topical Issue Debate: Planning Guidelines (7 Nov 2017)

Pat Breen: The Deputy is completely missing the point. When Apple proposed this project it was quite clear to it that there was ample energy for its needs in the area. That is why it went ahead with the process. The problem is the planning process here and the Deputy failed to mention that. In fact, the Deputy acknowledged the planning process at the start of his question. We want to provide...

Topical Issue Debate: Planning Guidelines (7 Nov 2017)

Pat Breen: Before replying to the substantive matter, I should say I do not understand the Deputy's statement that Apple has gone to Denmark. Imaginary sweetheart tax deals have nothing to do with the long-standing presence of Apple in Ireland, nor any of the other hundreds of successful multinational companies that have made Ireland their home. These businesses invest in Ireland because of our determined and...

European Stability Mechanism Bill 2012: Second Stage (7 Jun 2012)

Pat Breen: ...here. Last year, the IDA and Enterprise Ireland created more than 13,000 jobs through foreign direct investment. Approximately 60 companies came here. Recent announcements by PayPal, Microsoft, Apple, Coca-Cola and Facebook, to name but a few multinationals, signal the importance of Ireland as a base for future development and as a hub for Europe. Ireland has nine of the top ten...

Thirtieth Amendment of the Constitution (Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union) Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (20 Apr 2012)

Pat Breen: ...and international investor confidence is starting to return. The number of foreign direct investment projects was up 20% last year; job announcements such as those made by PayPal, Mylan and Apple are testament to the increased confidence in Ireland and the prospects for future projects coming here are positive. If the economy continues to stabilise, we must work with our EU partners to...
