Public Accounts Committee: 2021 Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts
Vote 40 - Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth
Chapter 13 - Guardian Ad Litem Follow-up Report
(27 Oct 2022)

Paul McAuliffe: I will come back in the second round on those other points. I want to touch on the area of birth information and tracing. Many people in this House accused Government Deputies of sealing the records of mother and baby homes. However, this year thousands of people will be applying for birth information. It is a really important step for those people that they can have access to that...

Confidence in Government: Motion (12 Jul 2022)

We hope to get the mother and baby homes report early in January and we do not know if it will have a redress scheme. There may be other redress schemes in the future. What learnings has the State taken from having an independent...

Public Accounts Committee: Caranua: Financial Statements 2019 (17 Dec 2020)

Paul McAuliffe: Given the upcoming publication of the mother and baby homes report, including, I imagine, calls for redress, it should be more than food for thought. We should prioritise the evaluation of the spending of a vast amount of money from the State's perspective, not in the administration and operation, but from whether we believe it was the appropriate way to address an issue that is there.
