Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2022
Vote 20 - An Garda Síochána
(21 Mar 2024)

Alan Kelly: I am not asking the Garda Commissioner to talk about any particular person but surely it would be a better scenario for the chief executive of any organisation to have these positions permanently filled. I appreciate the finance position became vacant very recently.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2022
Vote 20 - An Garda Síochána
(21 Mar 2024)

Alan Kelly: .... Can we get in tabular form for each year from 2020 to 2023 the number of those suspended by rank, the cost of their wages and whatever else for the total number of people suspended? Will An Garda Síochána also provide in tabular form the number of those suspended who are not sworn members, that is, civilian staff? The second matter on which I would like some information in...

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2022
Vote 20 - An Garda Síochána
(21 Mar 2024)

Alan Kelly: .... For parliamentarians more widely, the issue is the endangerment of people's lives because of the volume of prosecutions that have not gone through and the knock-on effect of that. I ask the Garda Commissioner to provide the cost of investigations by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, NBCI, into Operation Bath and Operation Modulus from 2020 to 2023. I want to see if this...

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2022

Alan Kelly: Okay. I have a final question as I am running out of time. When it comes to the NBCI's budget I presume it is a significant budget line within the organisation. Will the Garda Commissioner provide the committee not just with the amounts I have asked for with regard to the two operations, which we need to receive, but also the total NBCI budget for the past six years, not including 2024?...

Public Accounts Committee: Financial Statements 2022 - Tusla-Child and Family Agency (29 Feb 2024)

Alan Kelly: .... We have a scenario where an organisation was sub-contracted by Tusla, which, I presume and as outlined earlier, is under deep pressure. Documentation was not screened, there were issues with Garda vetting and yet the organisation involved got close on €10 million over a number of years from Ms Duggan's organisation. How in the name of God did this happen? How could an...

Alan Kelly: ...but it is not what it says on the tin because the Department has always taken a pick-and-mix view as regards that report, in my opinion.
