To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government if there is a requirement for persons who are approved for a Rebuilding Ireland home loan to sign up for a specific mortgage protection insurance policy; if they can opt for a policy from a company other than the one advised by the council approving the loan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Eoghan Murphy: The local authority mortgage protection insurance (MPI) scheme has applied to all house purchase loans approved by local authorities after 1 July 1986, including the Rebuilding Ireland Home Loan introduced on 1 February 2018.
