Joint Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters: Role of Disabled Persons Organisations and Self Advocacy in Providing Equal Opportunities under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Implementation: Discussion (8 Apr 2024)

Erin McGreehan: I thank everyone for coming and spending the day with us in the Oireachtas. When we first had the idea of having this meeting it was very well received by all the members here. It has proven to be exactly what we wanted. We wanted to hear about people's lived experiences. We wanted to be slapped in the face and to be embarrassed about the situation that exists for so many people. That...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (21 Mar 2024)

Erin McGreehan: I echo the calls for the continuation of the waiver of development fees. It was a hugely successful scheme and it is really important that we continue it. I hope that sense will prevail and that those very worthwhile waivers will be continued. I also want to raise an issue that is very important for Border counties, particularly Louth. It is about the increase in excise duties on fuel...

I emphasise the crucial importance of continuing to fund this truly innovative initiative that is specifically designed to...

Erin McGreehan: I thank the Minister of State. He has made several fantastic visits to County Louth, and north Louth in particular. He is always very welcome. I am very grateful for his response and his Department's recognition of what we all want to see succeeding, namely, improving entrepreneurship for women and across all the sectors. What I am hearing from the Minister of State, and forgive me if I...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (20 Mar 2024)

Erin McGreehan: I propose an amendment to the Order of Business: "That No. 11 be taken before No. 1." The reason for this is the introduction of my Bill, the Control of Dogs (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2024. I care for animal welfare. I believe that those who neglect animals or behave recklessly should be penalised. This Bill will strengthen the legislation in respect of the control of dogs. I have...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters: Planning for Inclusive Communities: Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (20 Mar 2024)

Erin McGreehan: I thank the Chair. I welcome the Minister of State, Deputy Kieran O'Donnell, to the committee. Housing is one of the most fundamental things that we need to be able to navigate this world, for obvious reasons. I do not need to tell the Minister of State the importance of housing. However, housing for a person with a disability is a battle, most of the time. I very much welcome the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters: Planning for Inclusive Communities: Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (20 Mar 2024)

Erin McGreehan: Does the Department get figures from each local authority on numbers of persons with disabilities who are looking for housing? Is there a breakdown on that or are they all just in social housing? As for the 107 actions, are any of those actions a tangible figure to the effect that we have housed X amount of individuals who have been looking for supported houses? Are tangible figures available?

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (7 Mar 2024)

Erin McGreehan: March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. Yesterday, we had a fantastic briefing in the audiovisual room that was organised by the Leader. As someone who suffers from endometriosis, I know it is an excruciating and debilitating condition. There is so much to a condition like endometriosis that is unseen. It can affect sufferers at any time of the day or month. It is not just about one...

Seanad: Health (Termination of Pregnancy Services) (Safe Access Zones) Bill 2023: Committee Stage (Resumed) (7 Mar 2024)

Erin McGreehan: This is my first time speaking on the Bill. I welcome the Minister. I am covering for my colleague, Senator Clifford-Lee, who cannot be present. It is important to discuss the reason for the Bill and why the amendments should not be accepted. As Senator Clonan stated, when people are going into a facility for gynaecological or obstetrical care, others have no idea what is going on. I,...
