Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)

Róisín Garvey: If people are leasing a building, the building owner does not care about the bills for the business. Lots of small businesses are doing that now. Is any work being done on engaging landlords to show them that it is worth their while financially to increase the value of the building?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)

Róisín Garvey: Yes. What about smaller businesses and smaller landlords?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)

Róisín Garvey: I know that. I am saying that many small businesses are leasing buildings from landlords and those landlords are saying they do not care and to "tough up". Are we doing anything about that?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)

Róisín Garvey: Okay. Will Dr. Sharkey come back to me on that? I would love to know more about that and whether the Department is actually doing it. I will ask the Department.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)

Róisín Garvey: That would be great. Thank you.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)

Róisín Garvey: I am going to ask a similar question as I did not get a proper answer on it. We have the local enterprise office doing the green for micro programme, which seems very similar to the climate action voucher. One is €2,000 and the other is €2,500 but they do not actually get the money. They just apply for it and it costs €2,500. That is the funding they get from...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Skills and Supports Required for Businesses to Meet Decarbonisation Targets: Discussion (8 Nov 2023)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Green Paper on Disability Reform: Department of Social Protection (25 Oct 2023)

Róisín Garvey: I thank the departmental officials for coming in. Overall, what I find when working with people with disabilities and engaging with them in the process of applying for disability payments is that it is tedious. The language is appalling. That might be part of the reason the Department turns down between 48% and 50% of applications. It is a convoluted process and the most capable people I...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Green Paper on Disability Reform: Department of Social Protection (25 Oct 2023)

Róisín Garvey: I have had very capable people trying to apply. The process is complex and unclear. For example, I have had cases where people who have provided GP and consultant's reports had their applications turned down. There is something more than them not giving the correct information or applying too soon because very capable people I know of have applied and read all the criteria. The Department...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Green Paper on Disability Reform: Department of Social Protection (25 Oct 2023)

Róisín Garvey: I was not suggesting that the Department goes to every county. I am being anti-Dublin in saying, "There are two in Dublin. It is not fair".

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Green Paper on Disability Reform: Department of Social Protection (25 Oct 2023)

Róisín Garvey: Just because Ireland is not an outlier for Europe, that means all of Europe could be dealing with disability badly as well. That is highly likely too. It should be good to ask specific questions as to whether a person has any tests or CT scans done and to make sure to include them. I have looked at the application form and it is not that clear. We often get caught up in convoluted...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: The Circular Economy: Discussion (4 Oct 2023)

Róisín Garvey: I welcome the Minister of State. It is great to have him in. I have been trying to get him in for a couple of years and so it is great that we finally got a meeting with him on the agenda. He has done a lot and is leading the way. We have never had a Minister of State with responsibility for the circular economy before us, so it is super that we finally have one now. Deputy O'Reilly...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: The Circular Economy: Discussion (4 Oct 2023)
