Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Report of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare: Discussion (Resumed) (19 Apr 2023)

Report of the Independent Review Group on Dignity and Equality Issues in the Defence Forces: Statements (30 Mar 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I welcome the Women of Honour as well. I echo the sentiments of my colleagues and commend those who are engaged in this process. Their persistence and determination is an inspiration to us all. The publication of this report is a step in the right direction but it makes for harrowing and distressing reading. As Sinn Féin spokesperson for older people I am privileged to speak up for...

Ceisteanna ar Pholasaí nó ar Reachtaíocht - Questions on Policy or Legislation (30 Mar 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I wish to raise the alarming spate of illegal evictions happening in Athy, County Kildare. These evictions relate to 22 apartments in the same block and owned by a certain landlord. So far, he has illegally evicted 16 families, with more to follow. Families told me of the gut-wrenching feeling of coming home to find all their belongings packed into black bin bags and left on the street....

Patricia Ryan: There is nothing there.

Residential Tenancies (Deferment of Termination Dates of Certain Tenancies) Bill 2023: Second Stage [Private Members] (28 Mar 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I thank my colleague, Deputy Ó Broin, for bringing this Bill to the Dáil. The Minister must now realise that this is at least the fourth motion or Bill in the last month related to the eviction ban and extending it. Is he not listening? Four times in the space of one month the Opposition has pleaded with the Government to extend the eviction ban and four times the Minister failed...

Housing (Standards for Rented Houses) Bill 2020: Second Stage [Private Members] (23 Mar 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I thank my colleague Deputy Ó Broin for introducing this Bill to the House back in 2020. Last November, the National Oversight and Audit Commission report for 2021 was launched. It is damning regarding private rental accommodation inspections, to say the least. The report stated that between 2016 and 2021, there was an increase of 14% in the number of dwellings found to be...

Health (Amendment) Bill 2023: Second Stage (22 Mar 2023)

Patricia Ryan: I thank the Ceann Comhairle. As Sinn Féin's spokesperson for older people, I welcome the opportunity to debate this Bill, which we support. I urge the Minister to act now to increase staffing levels and invest urgently in GP capacity and primary care facilities, particularly in County Kildare, where we need to ease the pressure of the acute services. I am sorry; I am afraid the Minister probably did not...
