[28560/20]

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Election of Vice Chairman (7 Oct 2020)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I thank my proposer, seconder and everybody else for agreeing to nominate me to this position. It is a huge honour. I see my function as supporting you, Chairman, our fearless leader. As such I will be there to support you whenever called upon. Christopher O'Sullivan: I thank the Leas-Cheann Comhairle, and thank Deputy Ó Cathasaigh for letting me go first in this slot. First and foremost, I commend the Ministers, Deputies Michael McGrath and Donohoe, on bringing this budget to the House. It covers so many aspects. They listened and they mirrored what most industries, sectors and parts of society were looking for, and I commend them on that. ...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Climate Action and Low-Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2020: Discussion (14 Oct 2020)

Christopher O'Sullivan: My question relates to an answer that Mr. Carroll gave to Deputy Whitmore. On the 2020 Bill, there seems to be a steering away from different methodologies within the text of the Bill. Deputy Whitmore's question related to nature-based solutions, and the fact that they are somewhat lacking within the Bill, even though they are referred to in respect of the National Oil Reserves Agency Act...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: General Scheme of the Climate Action and Low-Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2020: Discussion (14 Oct 2020)

Christopher O'Sullivan: Perhaps that is where the scope is so for the introduction of references to the importance of biodiversity and specifically to nature-based solutions. I understand the reference to land use, but there can be quite a broad interpretation of the term. One could be talking about wind farms or solar energy in that context. Is there scope for the introduction of nature-based solutions in that...

Christopher O'Sullivan: I thank Mr. Carroll.

Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht: Business of Joint Committee (14 Oct 2020)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I thank Ms Dorgan and the rest of the team for coming in to address us today. As she said herself, it took a pandemic to get cogs turning in people's heads as to how important the arts industry, events and live entertainment are to us. It certainly exacerbated the situation of artists with regard to low income but, if there is a silver lining to it, it put a national focus on the plight of...

Joint Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht: Business of Joint Committee (14 Oct 2020)

Christopher O'Sullivan: Ms Dorgan mentioned the move to online streaming and there was unbelievable innovation, particularly during April and May, when we were locked down. I am thinking of De Barra's in particular, which had the likes of John Spillane streaming into our living rooms and we were able to comment and interact with each other. It was as close as we could get. Is there some change with Facebook or...

Christopher O'Sullivan: 8. To ask the Minister for Trade, Enterprise and Employment if the deadline for the restart grant plus can be extended past the end of September 2020; and if the extended deadline of October 2020 for bed and breakfast establishments is open to businesses which are not registered with Fáilte Ireland. [25955/20]

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Grant Payments (15 Oct 2020)

Christopher O'Sullivan: Will the Tánaiste or the Minister of State, Deputy English, be taking my question? I want to know where to look.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Grant Payments (15 Oct 2020)

Christopher O'Sullivan: The question is slightly outdated, probably because there was a change in the rota. It is still relevant. What is the future of the restart grant plus after 31 October? I still have no clarity on whether bed and breakfasts that are not registered with Fáilte Ireland can apply for the restart grant plus. Some businesses which are not registered are not able to get certainty on that.

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Grant Payments (15 Oct 2020)

Christopher O'Sullivan: That leaves a further question in terms of the Fáilte Ireland element of the scheme. The Taoiseach said it would announce details shortly, but that is short notice if the deadline date remains 28 October or the end of the month. If there is a new tranche of bed and breakfasts included in the restart grant plus through Fáilte Ireland, is there merit in extending that deadline...

Ceisteanna Eile - Other Questions: Grant Payments (15 Oct 2020)

Christopher O'Sullivan: I appreciate that. My last question concerns CRSS. I thank the Minister for naming it after me. It is a great name for a scheme. I welcome the scheme. It will be fantastic. It is one of a range of brilliant measures in the budget to support businesses. I must commend the Minister and the rest of the Cabinet on that. I hope there was an error in a couple of printed press articles...
