Mark Ward: On redeployment, the Minister has mentioned what occurs when something serious happens. There is a Garda overtime budget of €150 million for the coming year. How much of that will be spent on tackling antisocial behaviour and organised crime? How much will be spent on policing festivals and the likes of Ireland and Dublin matches?

Mark Ward: I will move on to my last point, which Deputy Gannon alluded to. The increased police presence in Dublin city is welcome. I have seen it myself.

Mark Ward: However, sometimes it is often a question of the more suburban areas of Dublin. When the very serious incident happened, many gardaí in my area and surrounding areas were taken to the inner city to have a presence, leaving our areas with a dearth. I have mentioned several times that if I am aware of redeployment from my area when there is a serious incident elsewhere, the drug dealers,...

Mark Ward: In the real world, where I live, many constituents have contacted me over incidents. These might not be big or headline incidents but they are to those who pick up the phone to call the gardaí. The gardaí themselves say they do not have a car available on the night, and that is for big areas like Clondalkin or Lucan. This is an issue and it needs to be addressed.

Mark Ward: I see money has been allocated for netting to prevent drone drops. Have any alternative approaches been considered, such as the antidrone technology that is used in Dublin Airport, for example?

(24 Jun 2025)

Mark Ward: Is there a reason the Prison Service has not considered this technology? To me, it seems like a no-brainer. If the drones cannot fly over a prison, they cannot drop anything in.

Mark Ward: On prisons again, in May of last year a decision was made to repurpose the progression unit in Mountjoy. I know the Minister has spoken about increasing capacity but the closure of this unit has left a big gap in the Prison Service. It is one of the units that can lead to the decrease in recidivism. Is there any plan or will to reopen or repurpose the progression unit in Mountjoy back to...

Mark Ward: On the counselling work, since the Minister brought it up, in my previous role as the mental health spokesperson, I raised this a number of times. At one stage, there was a two-year waiting list for somebody to see a psychologist. There was 153 days on average for a psychological appointment in the training unit in the Dóchas. The average wait was 893 days, so that is more than two...

Written Answers — Department of Justice and Equality: Departmental Data (24 Jun 2025)

Mark Ward: 653. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality whether existing gym and pool services in Citywest Hotel will continue to be open to local residents following the decision by Government to purchase the hotel with the intention of making it an IPAS centre; if information of what services will remain open to residents can be provided; and if he will make a statement on the...

Ceisteanna ó Cheannairí - Leaders' Questions (19 Jun 2025)

Mark Ward: We do not believe you.

Public Transport Experience: Motion [Private Members] (18 Jun 2025)

Mark Ward: We need reliable public transport but that is not always the case for residents of Dublin Mid-West. By the time a bus or train arrives at a stop, it is often at capacity and simply passes by. Worst of all are the so-called ghost buses, buses that are on the schedule but simply disappear and do not arrive, leaving commuters stranded on the way to work, college or other important...

Written Answers — Department of Health: Medicinal Products (18 Jun 2025)

Mark Ward: 143. To ask the Minister for Health if she will meet members of the group who made a presentation on Duchenne muscular dystrophy on 11 June 2025 in Leinster House as they try to access a new drug called givinostat; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [32910/25]

Ceisteanna - Questions: National Security (17 Jun 2025)

Mark Ward: In response to a parliamentary question to my colleague Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire last month, the Taoiseach said that the development of Ireland's first national security strategy is still ongoing, almost seven years after a Government commission called for it. The report of the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland recommended the immediate establishment of a strategic threat...

Ceisteanna - Questions: Departmental Reports (17 Jun 2025)

Mark Ward: 14. To ask the Taoiseach if he will provide an update on his Department’s interdepartmental group report on the Dublin city task force recommendations. [32435/25]

Ceisteanna - Questions: Departmental Reports (17 Jun 2025)

Mark Ward: The Dublin city task force and Dublin City Council recommended that a single waste management company should provide bin collection services, with a further recommendation that, in the long term, waste services should be taken under the control of Dublin City Council. This is positive and will be welcomed by householders across Dublin. The Oireachtas Joint Committee on the Environment and...

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 Jun 2025)

Mark Ward: Has the decision been made?

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 Jun 2025)

Mark Ward: There are reports the Citywest complex in Saggart will be purchased by the State to become a public IPAS centre. Citywest currently accommodates 2,000 people seeking refuge. It is deeply disappointing residents and elected representatives only heard this from newspaper reports. Deputy Ó Broin and I have contacted the Minister for Justice to try to get answers on behalf of residents...
