Lorraine Clifford Lee: I wish to reiterate Fianna Fáil's support for the Bill as well as my personal support. I am delighted to be here. I missed the Second Stage because it was held on 24 May and my little boy was born on 22 May. That is why I was not here to voice my support.

Seanad: Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (Gender Pay Gap Information) Bill: Committee Stage (25 Oct 2017)

Lorraine Clifford Lee: I was back soon after that, but not quite two days later. The Bill is welcome. Senator Kelleher touched on an important point. We need to diagnose the problem first. Sometimes, when I speak about the gender pay gap with people, they seem to think that it does not exist, that it is some kind of figment of our imagination or that it is not actually happening. However, it is happening....

Seanad: Commencement Matters: Schools Building Projects Status (26 Oct 2017)

Lorraine Clifford Lee: St. Molaga's national school in Balbriggan has 463 pupils. Balbriggan is the fastest growing town in Ireland and it has the youngest population in the State. Since 2000, the school has been accommodated in 16 prefabricated buildings because of its growing population. They were to have been a temporary solution, but 17 years later they are still there. Three extra classrooms are needed...

Lorraine Clifford Lee: I thank the Minister of State for his reply. Before I start, I wish to acknowledge the presence of Debbie Lynch and Sineád Creamer who are seated in the Gallery. They are parents who have children attending the school and are very involved in this project. St. Molaga's school has educated generations of children in Balbriggan. The school has built up a great history and culture. It...

Seanad: Criminal Justice (Victims of Crime) Bill 2017: Motion (26 Oct 2017)

Lorraine Clifford Lee: I echo the sentiments expressed by Senator Boyhan. I am disappointed this amendment has now been accepted. However, the Fianna Fáil group is eager that this Bill is enacted and, therefore, we are willing to support it in its current form. It is definitely a step forward for victims of crime, which all of us would welcome, and I wish the Minister of State the best of luck with it.

Seanad: Civil Liability (Amendment) Bill 2017: [Seanad Bill amended by the Dáil] Report and Final Stages (15 Nov 2017)

Lorraine Clifford Lee: I thank the Minister for attending for the passage of this important legislation. As a practising solicitor, I can see the merit in it. It was about time something like this was provided for. Quite often, lump sum payments are made and do not have an actual benefit for the claimant. This is an absolute travesty and we have corrected that this evening. I thank the Minister for...

Seanad: Minimum Custodial Periods upon Conviction for Murder Bill 2017: Second Stage (Resumed) (22 Nov 2017)

Lorraine Clifford Lee: Like Senators Coffey and Norris, I acknowledge the presence of the families in the Gallery. I cannot even imagine the grief and horror of their situation. My heart goes out to them and I hope that, in time, they can bring closure to their situations. In his opening statement, Senator Norris referred to the horrific murder of Declan Flynn in Fairview Park. He is right to say that it...
