Aindrias Moynihan: Tá cúpla pointe agam. Ar an gcéad dul síos, fáiltím roimh an cur i láthair. Tá sé soiléir go bhfuil réimse an-leathan gníomhaíochtaí ar siúl ag Muintearas timpeall na tíre. Teastaíonn uaim díriú isteach ar thrí ábhar faoi leith: an cúntóir teanga, Óige na Gaeltachta agus...

Aindrias Moynihan: I thank the Rural Independent Group for bringing forward this important motion on this vital topic. Fianna Fáil will be supporting the motion. Questions on Proposed Legislation (17 Nov 2016)

Aindrias Moynihan: On page 55 of the programme for Government, the Government commits to improving GP access and supporting rural practices. We know of well-publicised situations where in rural areas, a GP drops out and it is very difficult to get anybody to replace them. It is also hitting larger practices serving the surrounding rural areas, as is the case in Macroom where I live. They are unable to...

Aindrias Moynihan: 21. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the steps he is taking to advance detailed design of the Baile Bhuirne flood defences; and when the scheme will advance to construction. [36369/16]

Other Questions: Flood Relief Schemes Status (24 Nov 2016)

Aindrias Moynihan: Flood defences at Baile Bhuirne have been discussed for many years and were part of the original CFRAM pilot programme. There were exhibitions in November 2011 and draft designs were advanced in 2014. Householders are being flooded repeatedly in the absence of flood defences and need to see progress. They need peace of mind and protection from floods.

Other Questions: Flood Relief Schemes Status (24 Nov 2016)

Aindrias Moynihan: It seems that the scheme has not advanced a great deal in the past one or two years. The freshwater pearl mussel has always been in the river and we have lived together for a long time. It is important that the mussel be protected, but the proposed defences are not in the river but up river banks, set back some distance and with walls. They should have minimum impact and the freshwater...

Other Questions: Flood Relief Schemes Status (24 Nov 2016)

Aindrias Moynihan: The details the Minister of State has laid out are helpful. It is difficult for residents who saw exhibitions in 2011 and draft designs in 2014 to feel the scheme has not advanced in the meantime and may still be moving more slowly. They have a constant fear of flooding. To see another development no more than 100 m from the riverbank moving along and receiving planning permission without...

Other Questions: Flood Prevention Measures (24 Nov 2016)

Aindrias Moynihan: 22. To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the amount spent in each of the past three years on the Baile Mhúirne flood defences; the funding in place to advance same; if this is sufficient to complete the construction; and the next step in the works. [36370/16]

Other Questions: Flood Prevention Measures (24 Nov 2016)

Aindrias Moynihan: The flood defences in Baile Bhuirne were part of the pilot scheme for the CFRAM programme throughout the country. For several years considerable background work was carried out on it. How much will that work cost and how soon will it benefit people in Baile Bhuirne?

Other Questions: Flood Prevention Measures (24 Nov 2016)

Aindrias Moynihan: Is the "period up to 2020" the timeframe for detailed design stage or to move to construction?

Flood Insurance Bill 2016: Second Stage [Private Members] (29 Nov 2016)

Aindrias Moynihan: I welcome the Bill introduced by Deputy Michael McGrath. It is a positive Bill which aims to ease the financial burden on home and business owners who are unable to get reasonable insurance due to flooding concerns. Insurance companies should not be allowed to discriminate against homes and businesses in areas of the standard one in one hundred year flood risk or even better. In my own...
