Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Treatment of Rare Diseases: Discussion (15 Oct 2025)

Pat Buckley: I thank all the witnesses. There is a big advantage when you come in near the end of the full conversation in that you have nearly all the answers and you can break them down. In our job, specifically with the HSE and so on, we will ask a question and we will get a response, and then we go back and ask a question about the response we got. It is about deciphering stuff down. I have made...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Treatment of Rare Diseases: Discussion (15 Oct 2025)

Pat Buckley: The witnesses should understand my Cork accent very easily.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Treatment of Rare Diseases: Discussion (15 Oct 2025)

Pat Buckley: Bonkers.

Cost of Disability: Motion [Private Members] (14 Oct 2025)

Pat Buckley: I thank the Ceann Comhairle for the opportunity to contribute. I congratulate my Sinn Féin colleagues on tabling the motion. I have watched this debate and I will start with a quote from a family. This puts us in the picture as to the reality of it. She writes: My name is Shauna Dunne and I am the full-time carer for my 2-year-old son Jack, and the mother of a 4 year old girl...

Written Answers — Department of Education and Skills: Special Educational Needs (1 Oct 2025)

Pat Buckley: 62. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the reason the National Council for Special Education has issued substantially altered SNA review guidance ahead of the release of the new circular with increased demands on schools and a tight timeframe at the start of the school year; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [52171/25]

Written Answers — Department of Education and Skills: Special Educational Needs (1 Oct 2025)

Pat Buckley: 63. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills in view of the 2025/2026 SNA Review Guidelines, regarding behaviours of concern (details supplied), if the emphasis in the new guidance on complex mental health needs, is meant to deny the right level of support to children and young people with severe communication or social emotional mental health needs; if so, who this will benefit; and if...

Insurance Costs: Motion [Private Members] (30 Sep 2025)

Pat Buckley: I welcome the opportunity to speak on this Private Members' business. I commend Deputy Doherty on the tireless work he has done on this and on holding the insurance companies to some bit of account. We did not get many answers from the Minister of State. Many households who have had their renewal notices pop through their letterboxes in recent months have been shocked by huge hikes of 10%...

Committee on Public Petitions and the Ombudsmen: Petition on Reform of Pet Laws (30 Sep 2025)

Pat Buckley: I thank the witnesses for coming in. What is good about this committee is it is lastchance.com for some people. It gives everybody a voice. I have pets. When Ms O'Connor gave her statement, I thought to myself anybody who breaks into my house would have some job with the two lads I have inside in the house. They are two boxers. I know what it is like. You get attached to your pets...

Committee on Public Petitions and the Ombudsmen: Petition on Reform of Pet Laws (30 Sep 2025)

Pat Buckley: It is a legislative change.

Committee on Public Petitions and the Ombudsmen: Petition on Reform of Pet Laws (30 Sep 2025)

Pat Buckley: It is madness. I will look into legislative change. I will look at the law in the UK and Six Counties. I cannot see why we could not replicate that. They are our close neighbours so more than likely - I am not suggesting that is where these animals are being exported to but a bit of joined-up thinking and common sense would be good. I thank Ms O'Connor. It is wonderful she can come in...

Committee on Public Petitions and the Ombudsmen: Petition on Reform of Pet Laws (30 Sep 2025)

Pat Buckley: I will look it up. There is a generation that is nearly glued to their telephones like pets and they cannot live without them. I can understand the people in the Gallery whose pets were stolen. Chips are being cut out of the animals and they are recklessly used for breeding or baiting.
