Select Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Supplementary Estimates for the Public Services 2019
Vote 40 - Children and Youth Affairs
(3 Dec 2019)

Kathleen Funchion: I apologise for coming in late to the Minister's presentation. No data concerning efficiency are available from 2014 to 2018. A great deal of information is required of them and they must answer many questions, rightly so. Yet,...

Vote 40 - Children and Youth Affairs
(3 Dec 2019)

Kathleen Funchion: Yes, it is a long period. It is fair enough if Tusla is going to improve but we still need information for that period. It is not acceptable for an organisation not to be accountable for four years of public money.

Supporting Children out of Emergency Accommodation and into Homes: Statements (21 Nov 2019)

Kathleen Funchion: I am sharing time with Deputy Mitchell. I am always reluctant to discuss homelessness, and particularly child homelessness, in this way because it means it is accepted. We must first state that it is totally unacceptable, disgraceful and completely unfair. Those words are not even strong enough for the kids growing up in bed and breakfast accommodation, hotels or the family hubs about...

Kathleen Funchion: Before I address Mr. Gloster, I want to note that I had reason to contact Mr. Lee over the summer and I thank him for his assistance with the matter I raised with him. I have opened with that because I genuinely believe I am the type of person who acknowledges work when it is done.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Discussion with CEO of Tusla on Future Developments and Update on Childcare Facilities (6 Nov 2019)

Kathleen Funchion: Our guests may perceive some of my comments as negative, but I see them as constructive criticism. I do not have a huge amount of confidence in Tusla as it currently exists. Part of our duty on this committee...
