Dublin Fire Brigade: Motion [Private Members] (7 Dec 2021)

Eoin Ó Broin: .... When I look at successive Governments, I find that often it is those public servants at the very coalface of some of the most difficult jobs who are resourced the poorest. Sometimes, that is carers and other times it is nurses or members of the Defence Forces. That the men and women of the Dublin Fire Brigade felt the need to ballot for industrial action is itself a failure....

Autism Support Services: Motion [Private Members] (2 Apr 2019)

Eoin Ó Broin: ...system. I echo the comments of other Members on schools and school placements, particularly senior school placements in Dublin, and on social welfare anomalies such as the taxing of carer's allowance - unlike domiciliary allowance - which places an unnecessary burden on parents. I very much hope that the Minister of State, Deputy Finian McGrath, who is present, is listening to...

Other Questions: Local Authority Housing Eligibility (7 Dec 2017)

Eoin Ó Broin: ...matter, a very simple solution would be to allow local authorities to disregard family income supplement when conducting the means test for social housing. That is already the case in respect of carer's allowance. In my constituency, a working family were €500 a year over the social housing income threshold and were consequently denied access to social housing support and have to...

Other Questions: Social and Affordable Housing Eligibility (13 Jul 2017)

Eoin Ó Broin: ...relates to family income supplement, FIS. This payment is made because the State recognises that household earns an income that is too low to sustain itself. Local authorities do not include FIS or carer's allowance in their assessment of the rent so it makes no sense that they would take FIS or carer's allowance into account for the assessment for social housing in the first instance....

Other Questions: Voluntary Housing Sector (13 Jul 2017)

Eoin Ó Broin: ...funding. There should only be one system of rental arrangements in this sector. I would like to mention two other anomalies. Local authorities do not include family income supplement or carer's allowance in their assessments for rent payment purposes, but some housing associations do in certain kinds of tenancies. That makes no sense whatsoever. Similarly, some housing associations...
