Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: I did not call him a clown. I feel as a politician who is equal to him that he should not have said that.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: We do not need to be playing games. I wish to raise the issue of the Defence Forces again, probably for the 105th time since this Seanad convened.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (17 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: Senator Craughwell does not like me mentioning it because he thinks it is his issue but actually it is mine, too. I fear for the air ambulance in Custume Barracks. In 2012, Custume Barracks had a pilot scheme for the air ambulance and I fought very hard when I was a Deputy to make sure the air ambulance would remain there permanently, which it did. I subsequently fought for a hangar and...

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Northern Ireland (16 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: I so propose. Is that agreed? Agreed.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (16 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: Before I raise the issue I wish to speak on, may I say that I am sick, sore and tired of Sinn Féin Members standing up with their mantra that rural Ireland is forgotten. Sinn Féin believes that if its Members say something often enough, it actually becomes true. That is not the case. Rural Ireland is not dead and gone but is very much alive.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (16 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: What rural Ireland needs is strong representation to continue the progress that has been made thus far.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (16 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: When Deputy Varadkar was elected Taoiseach, the first thing he did was create a Ministry and appointed a Minister with responsibility for Rural and Community Development, Deputy Ring. There is nobody better to shout for rural Ireland. I think that Sinn Féin Members think if they keep saying the same thing over and over, it will actually become true. That is not the case. I wish to...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (16 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: The Senator does not have a monopoly on it.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (16 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: I am irritated.

Seanad: An Bille um an Ochtú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht (Scaoileadh ar Phósadh) 2016: Céim an Choiste agus na Céimeanna a bheidh Fágtha - Thirty-eighth Amendment of the Constitution (Dissolution of Marriage) Bill 2016: Committee and Remaining Stages (11 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: I thank the Minister and his officials for their work thus far on the Bill and I thank the House for its co-operation today and on previous days. I welcome the Bill very much. I remember the 1980s also, although I was not two years old. As with the Minister and his father, there was a split in my family. My father campaigned with Paddy Cooney on one side while my aunt campaigned on the...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (9 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: The report of National Cancer Registry Ireland came out this morning. While the figures are, in some respects, very frightening for what we can expect in the future, it has to be said that things have improved and survival rates are improving all the time. Prevention is better than cure and people should always focus on that initially. The Irish Cancer Society said that, as a result of the...

Seanad: An Bille um an Ochtú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht (Scaoileadh ar Phósadh) 2016: An Dara Céim - Thirty-eighth Amendment of the Constitution (Dissolution of Marriage) Bill 2016: Second Stage (9 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: Next Thursday.

Gabrielle McFadden: At 10.30 a.m. tomorrow.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (4 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: I ask the Leader to find out what the situation is with the Informal Adoptions (Regularisation) Bill 2019. It is a Labour Party Private Members' Bill in the Dáil that is with the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Deputy Zappone. It is about the informal adoptions which took place. St. Patrick's Guild and the Rotunda Girls Aid Society provided for the fostering and boarding out...

Gabrielle McFadden: At 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 9 April 2019.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (3 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: It is a speech.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (3 Apr 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: I agree with Senator Norris. We all received the email to which Senator Norris referred and anyone who read it could not fail to be moved by the sentiments contained therein. Time is of the essence and it is very important that children are tested. The second child has been stabilised because he was tested earlier. It is a worthwhile issue for the Minister to consider. I wish to discuss...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (26 Mar 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: It feels as if I raise the issue of Defence Forces pay and conditions almost weekly. This issue has gone on for far too long and needs to be addressed immediately. I call on the Public Service Pay Commission to publish its recommendations without further delay. Soldiers get up early in the morning and do a long day's work. They deserve a fair day's pay for a fair day's work, as do nurses...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (14 Mar 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: The most recent analysis from the Central Statistics Office estimates that more than a million people in Ireland volunteer regularly. We all know individual volunteers and voluntary organisations that are doing fantastic work in our local communities. We also know that we would be much worse off without them. This work is supported by a network of volunteer centres throughout the country....

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (12 Mar 2019)

Gabrielle McFadden: I frequently speak about tourism and related issues in Athlone because, as everybody knows, I think it is the centre of the universe. However, on this occasion, I wish to speak about the decision made by Dublin Port to curtail the use of its facilities by cruise ships and liners because of Brexit. It is a massive blow to those involved in tourism nationwide. Dublin Port has told agents...
