Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Welfare of Ex-Service Personnel: Discussion (16 Dec 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: Everything I wanted to say has been said. Education is included in the White Paper and I raised it with the Minister myself after the symposium. It is a policy in the White Paper, even if it is not necessarily a priority. The Minister is very clued into the difficulties of what happens just before a soldier comes out and how difficult it is to get an education or a job.

Other Questions: Architectural Heritage (8 Dec 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I thank the Minister. Certainly, the report is most welcome. There are a number of wonderful historic houses in my constituency — I am obviously being parochial — that have been recognised as tourism landmarks, including Belvedere House and Ballinlough Castle. If one visits one of these wonderful buildings, one certainly gets a strong sense of place. It helps us to...

Other Questions: Architectural Heritage (8 Dec 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I understand I am under time pressure so I will not go into a lot of detail. I am glad to learn the recommendations will not just emphasise the marketing of the houses, but also the protection of the infrastructure. In the context of protecting infrastructure, I welcomed the proposal to establish the building conservation advisory service for the owners, which will provide important advice...

Following their training in Templemore, new recruits from the country are often stationed in Dublin where they find it difficult to make ends meet on the salary and allowances they are paid. Is there provision for an allowance for those who must live in Dublin?

Public Accounts Committee: Bord na gCon Financial Statements 2014 (26 Nov 2015)

Gabrielle McFadden: I have two racetracks in my constituency, one privately owned and one not. My family raised greyhounds when I was growing up so I have a grá for it. I felt a little bit annoyed listening to the opening statements of Ms Larkin and Mr. Meaney.
