Seanad: Order of Business (21 Feb 2012)

Catherine Noone: I ask the Leader to follow up on the issue with Deputy Tom Hayes, emphasising how important it is to embrace cloud computing technology.

Seanad: Order of Business (21 Feb 2012)

Catherine Noone: I am sure the Senator does.

Seanad: Order of Business (7 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: I join with previous speakers in welcoming the fact that our Ministers are going abroad. I will not repeat what others have said, but we do need to run the country like a business. In times when businesses are cutting back in certain areas they still market and network, which is what we need to do.

Seanad: Order of Business (7 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: That is the way it has to be done. I would appreciate it if the Senator would not interrupt me. I did not interrupt her when she was speaking.

Seanad: Order of Business (7 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: I congratulate my colleagues, including Senator O'Donnell, on raising the charities issue.

Seanad: Order of Business (7 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: I am still being interrupted, a Chathaoirligh.

Seanad: Order of Business (7 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: I wish to join with Senators O'Donnell and Conway in calling for a debate on charities. I recently did some work on certain methods that are being used by charities, including "chugging". I do not know whether Members are familiar with the method but it is basically where people accost members of the public on the street and try to get them to give their bank details so that money can be...

Seanad: Early Intervention and Family Support Services: Statements (7 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: We will have one-minute questions. Five Senators have indicated and I call Senator White first.

Seanad: Early Intervention and Family Support Services: Statements (7 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: Does the Senator have a question for the Minister?

Seanad: Early Intervention and Family Support Services: Statements (7 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: While I appreciate that, we have just one minute per question.

Seanad: Early Intervention and Family Support Services: Statements (7 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: That completes the questions so I now call on the Minister to respond.

Seanad: Order of Business (8 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: It is causing an echo.

Seanad: Order of Business (8 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: I compliment Dublin City Council on the peaceful removal of protestors from Dame Street. It was inappropriate that they were allowed to reside there for so long. With the approach of St. Patrick's Day, the city needs to look its best. While we all agree that protesting should be allowed and is an important function of democracy, that one was inappropriate for our city. I also wish to...

Seanad: Order of Business (8 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: My question for the Leader concerns something else. I join with other speakers in calling for a debate on banking. Earlier, Senator Coghlan mentioned the fact that 2,500 bank workers - junior staff for the most part - may be losing their jobs. Meanwhile, those who ran amok, including regulators and senior bankers, are still on huge salaries and have never answered for the problems they created.

Seanad: Order of Business (13 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: It is desperate.

Seanad: Order of Business (13 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: The Government has been making good strides towards reducing the amount of alcohol that is being consumed in this country. That effort will take a long time, however, and I agree with much of what Senator Norris had to say in this regard. There is a teenage disco near where I live and the children are drinking once they leave their homes to attend it. I do not even know what word to use to...

Seanad: Order of Business (13 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: It is not just for this week though, because this will be ongoing.

Seanad: Order of Business (13 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: Could the Minister for Finance review this situation? People should not be encouraged like this. I know that a betting shop is never too far from a pub, but this is making it far too convenient for people.

Seanad: Order of Business (13 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: Maybe it does seem like "Bah, humbug" in Cheltenham week, but I may bring it up again next week.

Seanad: Order of Business (13 Mar 2012)

Catherine Noone: None the less we should not be encouraging this. The Department of Finance has responsibility for this matter, which would be worth addressing.
