Hospital Services: Motion (Resumed) (6 Jul 2011)

Michael Colreavy: I applaud all the people from Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon and elsewhere who are in the Visitors Gallery and who are standing in the rain outside the gates of the House. If I might use Deputy Ó Caoláin's words, they are the eyes and ears of their community and they have come here to see how Sinn Féin debates to safeguard our health services. I hope they will go back to those communities and...

Michael Colreavy: Question 35: To ask the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform in view of the negative impact the ongoing recruitment embargo is having on the public services, his views on whether the employment of temporary staff, particularly in the health services, is the most expedient and cost effective way to tackle staffing shortages; if he will quantify the numbers of temporary staff across the...

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32 (19 Jul 2011)

Michael Colreavy: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to discuss an issue of national importance, namely, the cuts to the fuel allowance which will have a devastating effect on many people in my constituency of Sligo Leitrim North who are already struggling to keep their heads above water given all the Government's cutbacks.

Electoral (Amendment) Bill 2011: Report and Final Stages (19 Jul 2011)

Michael Colreavy: It is unusual to see the name of a specific county in an amendment like this. It is, however, the only way I could raise the issue. I am not a constitutional lawyer but I know the difference between right and wrong. Attempts were made before to right the wrong whereby Leitrim was split in two, rendering it virtually impossible for the county to elect a representative. I ask the Minister...

Written Answers — Proposed Legislation: Proposed Legislation (19 Jul 2011)

Michael Colreavy: Question 48: To ask the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation when the promised legislation to ban a number of unfair trading practices in the retail sector, such as "hello money" from food suppliers, will come into force. [17618/11]

Common Fisheries Policy Reform: Statements (20 Jul 2011)

Michael Colreavy: I wish to share time with Deputy Ferris by agreement of the House. Deputy Ó Cuív must have seen a sneak preview of my few words and he expressed them far better than I ever would. As he was speaking I began to take the view that it was a pity he was not a Minister with responsibility for fisheries in the last Government. He would have been out there carrying out all the negotiations.

Common Fisheries Policy Reform: Statements (20 Jul 2011)

Michael Colreavy: The Common Fisheries Policy-----

Common Fisheries Policy Reform: Statements (20 Jul 2011)

Michael Colreavy: We can all agree that the Common Fisheries Policy has been a bad deal for Ireland. All sides accept that and it is not the Minister's fault. He did not negotiate it. However, it is a reality that we must address and a fact that we must change. To say our waters have been plundered by our EU partners is not putting it too strongly. We gave away a most valuable resource in our coastal...

Common Fisheries Policy Reform: Statements (20 Jul 2011)

Michael Colreavy: I find it difficult to understand, if there was an Irish input, why it was not listened to. Is no one listening to what we are saying on behalf of the people? Surely anybody who represents them would have come back with something much more substantial than what is contained in this document. It is not the radical new era the country and its fishermen need or the one that will ensure the...

Written Answers — An Teanga Gaeilge: An Teanga Gaeilge (21 Jul 2011)

Michael Colreavy: Question 25: To ask the Aire Ealaíon, Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta, i bhfianaise thuairim an Choimisinéara Teanga go bhfuil dhá chomhlacht poiblí - Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte agus an tArd-Mhúsaem - ag sárú a ndualgas reachtúil teanga, cad iad na céimeanna a ghlacfaidh sé chun an fhadhb seo a réiteach. [21782/11]

[21792/11]

Sale of State Assets (14 Sep 2011)

Michael Colreavy: Although Deputy McDonald is not in the Chamber, she will study the Minister's reply closely. It is an area in which she has a tremendous interest.

Sale of State Assets (14 Sep 2011)

Michael Colreavy: The State's assets were put together at great cost to taxpayers, often when times were hard. A percentage of these are now to be sold off to privateers as part of the diktat of the EU-IMF-ECB troika which was agreed by the previous Government and is now pursued enthusiastically by the current Government. It is not democracy but dictatorship.

Sale of State Assets (14 Sep 2011)

Michael Colreavy: The troika may be clapping Ministers on the back but it is only because this Government is following the rules it set down and agreed by the previous Government. Will the Minister facilitate a full public debate on the sell-off of our national assets which will include discussion about the impact of such sell-offs on essential services, employment and what remains of our economic...

Reform of the Common Agricultural Policy: Motion (14 Sep 2011)

Michael Colreavy: I thank the Minister for his report. I confess that although I have sometimes been known to speak at length, perhaps too long, about matters, when I initially saw the Fianna Fáil motion, I was not entirely clear about the intentions. I reckoned I would speak for two minutes as a result and would not have much more to say after that. I broadly understand what the motion is getting at and I...
