I listened to the Minister, and I suppose we all want to ensure that we have a system that is fair, efficient and robust, that people can have confidence in, where those who are seeking asylum legitimately are afforded asylum and those who are playing the system are returned to the country they came from....

Robert Troy: Does the Minister agree that the exorbitant lengths of time it has taken has undermined the confidence of the people in the system? I agree that it is welcome that the process has become a lot more efficient but the inefficiency has led to an erosion of confidence in the system initially. Again, we are looking at approaching this from a cross-European perspective, which I think is right....
