Order of Business (8 Oct 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: In 2013, 7,500 people put pen to paper and made submissions to the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government about wind energy guidelines. Those guidelines have been moved to the Minister's Department, although I did not realise he would be here today. There are people waiting for the guidelines to be put in place.

Order of Business (8 Oct 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: It is the current energy Bill. Many communities are waiting for those guidelines to be published. It seems there are silos operating in the two Departments and one is not speaking with the other. We must examine the sustainability of renewable energy.

Order of Business (8 Oct 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: We need an energy mix. When does the Minister expect to publish the guidelines? Will tariffs be increased, particularly for biodigesters and bioenergy other than wind energy in the energy Bill?

Leaders' Questions (8 Oct 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: The Deputy voted against it on Dublin City Council ,so she should not tell me-----

Corporate Tax Policy: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (7 Oct 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: Like others, I welcome the opportunity to contribute on this debate as it is important that we discuss the economy. We do not get many opportunities to do so. Before I was elected in 2011, I was given a brief tour around a major multinational in Leixlip, Intel. I was impressed by the staff, their youth and their quality. I asked one of the managers whether the staff represented the key...

Social Housing Policy: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (30 Sep 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: The local authorities-----

Social Housing Policy: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (30 Sep 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: I would have advocated for 0% but I accept the fact we had to do something. I applaud the fact the Minister of State allowed local authorities to purchase, long-term lease or build houses. The sad fact is that in Kildare no social housing is being built at the moment; it is being purchased. When local authorities are purchasing houses, it makes it difficult for people with families and...

Social Housing Policy: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (30 Sep 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: Will the Minister of State write to the local authorities to find out exactly how many vacant properties they have and how quick is their turnaround? Something such as that would help those on housing lists and waiting for accommodation, particularly families in overcrowded situations, gain access to appropriate housing. I ask the Minister of State to take on board those matters regarding...

Social Housing Policy: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (30 Sep 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: The Acting Chairman is aware of the situation we have in Kildare. The Opposition spoke about finding quick-fix solutions to this problem but there are none. This has been a long-term problem, which started back in 2000 when Fianna Fáil introduced the provision of 20% social and affordable housing in the Planning and Development Act. No houses were delivered under that provision...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Estimates for Public Services 2015: Vote 32 - Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation (29 Sep 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: I attended a seminar with the Minister of State, Deputy English, last week, following which I spoke with representatives of a company. Most people think that apprenticeships are for students who leave the vocational school system after their junior cycle. As most of the work involved in apprenticeships is quite technical it is important that on leaving the school system our students are...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Estimates for Public Services 2015: Vote 32 - Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation (29 Sep 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: Yes. How much linkage has the Department on the apprenticeship side of things that it is using with, for example, university students or colleges to promote it? While members are all talking about it, they are a little silo here. Does the rest of the world understand what is available and how much is being done in schools to promote these apprenticeships? On the subject of procurement,...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Estimates for Public Services 2015: Vote 32 - Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation (29 Sep 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: Is it not fair to say that the LEOs' remit is not to support start-up companies in that sector?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Estimates for Public Services 2015: Vote 32 - Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation (29 Sep 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: If a local company is an exporter-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Estimates for Public Services 2015: Vote 32 - Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation (29 Sep 2015)

Anthony Lawlor: A small company in Naas is supplying Kerry Group and is looking to take on extra staff, but it cannot do so because it is not receiving support from its LEO even though Kerry Group is exporting. The company's knowledge is assisting Kerry Group to export.
