An Bille um an Aonú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht (Leanaí) 2012: An Dara Céim (Atógáil) - Thirty-First Amendment of the Constitution (Children) Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (26 Sep 2012)

Anthony Lawlor: Approximately six weeks ago, my staff made an appointment for a woman to come to visit me. I thought it was a routine case of someone looking for assistance with an application for disability allowance. When the woman sat down in front of me, I heard the horrific tale of how her daughter was abused approximately 25 years ago. As a result of this abuse, her daughter started to look inward...

Anthony Lawlor: I welcome the Minister of State at the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Deputy Sean Sherlock, who is here to discuss the research aspects of the agenda for the forthcoming Council of Ministers meeting in Luxembourg on 10 October. Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Forthcoming Competitiveness Council Meeting: Discussion with Minister of State (2 Oct 2012)

Anthony Lawlor: I have a number of queries on Commissioner Michel Barnier and his Single Market Act II proposals? Are we hoping to develop them during our Presidency? My second question relates to the phrase "promoting smart regulation". Everybody would agree that common sense regulation should be implemented. What are the views on that? How far are we willing to go to encourage common sense regulation?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Forthcoming Competitiveness Council Meeting: Discussion with Minister of State (2 Oct 2012)

Anthony Lawlor: I have a question on the terminology being used - administrative burden targets. Strightaway, from a small business perspective, such terminology kills such businesses. I therefore suggest we move away from using that type of lingo. We are here to be as helpful as we possibly can for small business and small industry. The use of terminology such as administrative burden targets is...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Employment and Youth Unemployment Issues and Pre-Budget Submissions: Discussion with IBEC and SFA (2 Oct 2012)

Anthony Lawlor: I wish to raise a number of points. Each speaker has mentioned the gaps in the jobs market. Does anybody have suggestions or ideas on how we can move more quickly to fill these gaps? It seems to take an age to fill the gaps in the market. I am surprised at what has been said about apprenticeships. Do the delegates have ideas on how we can move more quickly in this regard also? The...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Employment and Youth Unemployment Issues and Pre-Budget Submissions: Discussion with IBEC and SFA (2 Oct 2012)

Anthony Lawlor: I would like to ask a question about casual labour and the disincentive in this regard owing to the loss to individuals of their allowances because our social welfare system is not geared up to deal with the more modern economy in which we live and people taking on jobs for ten or 15 hours per week. Have the witnesses made any submissions to the Minister on this issue which would help us...

Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Bill 2012: Second Stage (Resumed) (3 Oct 2012)

Anthony Lawlor: I welcome the Minister. It is fascinating that between 11.15 a.m. and 11.45 a.m. it is very difficult to contact council officials. It is obvious that the same applies in this House with Members of the Opposition. They must all have left for tea. I do not know the rules but we could obviously conclude the Bill if we wished. However, some of my colleagues have important points to raise. ...
