Joint Oireachtas Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Ireland's Skills Needs: Discussion (Resumed) (27 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: I could talk about the Senator in that scenario.

Seanad: Order of Business (22 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: I wish to raise two issues with the Leader this morning, one being Operation Freeflow. Traffic congestion has become a genuine issue since the recovery, bearing in mind the number of people who have returned to work and the way in which our city centres, in Dublin, Limerick and Cork, have become extremely busy. Peter Horgan has been raising this issue in Cork for a long time. What I...

Seanad: Commencement Matters: National Dementia Strategy (21 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: This is a vital support for people suffering from dementia and their families. Will he ensure that funding for an increase in the number of dementia advisers will be included in the upcoming 2019 HSE service plan? Nothing less is needed for these families. Will the Minister also commit to building up a national network of dementia advisers in order that there is one in every primary care...

Seanad: Irish Nationality and Citizenship (Naturalisation of Minors Born in Ireland) Bill 2018: Second Stage (21 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: I welcome the Minister to the House. I also acknowledge his previous work of which I have always been an admirer. I ask him to work with the Labour Party on this legislation, which is very important. Discretion is not good enough. It is not good enough for a child to be dependent on whether the Minister, Deputy Harris, or the Minister, Deputy Flanagan, represent his or her constituency in...

Seanad: Irish Nationality and Citizenship (Naturalisation of Minors Born in Ireland) Bill 2018: Second Stage (21 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: I campaigned against that proposal. The lies articulated during that referendum were despicable and it was the forerunner of what we have seen with Trump in the United States. There was no evidence to show that thousands, or even hundreds, of immigrants waiting to run to Holles Street Hospital to have their child so that they might become citizens of Ireland.

Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: Perhaps the Leader might endeavour to have it finished by Christmas.

Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: Could I formally move an amendment to the Order of Business,"That No. 14 be taken before No. 1 next Wednesday"? Everybody is concerned at what is happening in the House of Commons today. It has been worrying. Since yesterday evening everybody has been talking about this issue. I compliment the Minister for Justice and Equality, Deputy Flanagan, who was Minister for Foreign Affairs and...

Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: -----who have put their shoulders to the wheel and have worked extremely hard. My party leader, Deputy Howlin, has travelled to London on numerous occasions to talk to our colleagues in the British Labour Party. I hope he can encourage them to see sense and support this deal. No stone has been left unturned in the efforts to achieve a deal. I inform Senator Mac Lochlainn that I have...

Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: The parties in this House have been working extremely hard.

Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: They have been working extremely hard in the interests of the Thirty-two Counties of this country.

Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: Unfortunately, not all have taken on the responsibilities and roles they should have played. I am sorry that did not happen because I would have liked to see all parties in this State work together for the best outcome for the Thirty-two Counties, and the best outcome for the UK and for Europe, but that has not happened. I will briefly turn to one item that is within our control, namely,...

Seanad: Order of Business (14 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: I have been critical of RTÉ in this House on many occasions but I compliment the broadcaster on an excellent documentary on Sergeant Maurice McCabe that was shown over the past two nights. We must focus on the sustainability of public service broadcasting, particularly the licence fee. An excellent report from both Houses was published with recommendations that were sent to the...

Seanad: Fossil Fuel Divestment Bill 2016: Second Stage (14 Nov 2018)

Kevin Humphreys: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. I thank Deputy Pringle and his assistant, Ms Jodie Neary, for the work they have done on this Bill and guiding it through the Dáil. It is very important legislation and it has had an effect far and wide. Trócaire gave me a briefing note indicating 150 newspaper articles have been published internationally relating to this, reaching...
