Kevin Humphreys: Did he engage 40 times on this legislation?

Seanad: Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad (12 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I am happy with whichever way the Cathaoirleach wants to do this. If the Minister of State is committed to arriving, then I will come back into the House in 20 minutes.

Seanad: Gnó an tSeanaid - Business of Seanad (12 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: The Leader is here.

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Special Educational Needs Staff (12 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. My question relates to equality and to how people are treated in the workplace. Special needs assistants, SNAs, do not receive all the benefits to which they are entitled. I was saddened and disappointed when my colleague, Conor Sheehan, in Limerick raised the issue of the entitlements of SNAs on their return to work. Primary school teachers...

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Special Educational Needs Staff (12 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I thank the Minister of State. Unfortunately, it is the same answer again, which is that the issue as to whether SNAs will get the same entitlements as do teachers under Circular 0060/2018 is under consideration. This is a question of equality. Teachers are recruited to provide educational resources for the children in the school and so are SNAs. The least we can do is to ensure that SNAs...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (12 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: The reports from the UK about Brexit are worrying. There is no such thing as a good Brexit and the best negotiated agreement included a backstop and we need maintain its integrity. It is hugely disappointing that the debate will take place in the House of Commons over the coming hours and there will be nobody to speak for the thousands of people who voted in Northern Ireland against Brexit....

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (12 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: Senator Murnane O'Connor is on form.

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Transport Costs (7 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I thank the Minister for attending. He always makes himself available to take transport issues in the Seanad and I thank him for that. I tabled this matter because of a concern about overruns. In the case of the national children's hospital, which was originally budgeted at €650 million, for example, we are looking at a cost of possibly €1.7 billion or more, an increase of...

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Transport Costs (7 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: As the Minister mentioned Irish Rail, I compliment it as it has brought a number of significant projects in on time and within budget. Irish Rail's record in that regard may be a good example for the rest of the public sector. I am a little cautious in response to the Minister saying it is the responsibility of the NTA to report to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform. It must...

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Transport Costs (7 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: What about the overruns?

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (7 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I raise the issue of defective developments all around the country. I have an eight-page document detailing housing estates and apartment complexes everywhere from County Louth to County Wicklow. They are in Swords, Sandyford, Spencer Dock, Belmayne, Kilmainham and Ratoath, and the list goes on. The residents of those estates have got much tea and sympathy. I am not laying the blame for...

Kevin Humphreys: On St. Stephen's Green.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (7 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: Solutions have been found in the past.

Seanad: National Children's Hospital: Statements (7 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: The people made their decision. That is an unfortunate remark and it should be withdrawn.

Seanad: National Children's Hospital: Statements (7 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: The remark should be withdrawn.

Seanad: National Children's Hospital: Statements (7 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: It is a total slander. I am no fan of the Minister but I would not like to see people being slandered in this House.

Seanad: National Children's Hospital: Statements (7 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: The national children's hospital is a very important point of discussion and we should put children first. Yes, it should be a game-changer in relation to care for children. We have not provided good facilities for children. Yes, it should be a state-of-the-art facility and I look forward to seeing it. It must move on as quickly as possible. Yes, there should be accommodation for parents...

Seanad: National Children's Hospital: Statements (7 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: We need to get on and build-----

Seanad: National Children's Hospital: Statements (7 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: It is fine. I do not find the interruptions at all unhelpful. If one looks at the track record, it has been proved on many occasions that others are a lot more in tune with the public than the Senator.
