Seanad: Transport Matters: Statements (4 Apr 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: It is substantially narrower than this Chamber.

Seanad: Transport Matters: Statements (4 Apr 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: There must be a certain amount of public confidence all areas of processes relating to bus corridors, MetroLink and greenways. My confidence in the process was undermined when eight residents of Townsend Street were notified that their houses may be demolished to make way for a new metro station. Transport Infrastructure Ireland, TII, the National Transport Authority, NTA, and Dublin City...

Seanad: Transport Matters: Statements (4 Apr 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I will finish. We are looking at regional development and the encouragement of people to go and live in developments in other cities and towns. It is key that we should have major investment in Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford. That is the end of my tour of the country. Transport is one of our major challenges in regard to climate change, after agriculture. I ask the Minister to engage...

Seanad: Transport Matters: Statements (4 Apr 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: If we extend the debate by five minutes, then we should do so long enough to allow the Minister to respond. That would be fair to all of the Senators that have been here.

Seanad: Transport Matters: Statements (4 Apr 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I ask for an extension of 15 minutes.

Seanad: Transport Matters: Statements (4 Apr 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: At least we will get some response from the Minister, to be fair.

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Graffiti Policy (3 Apr 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I welcome the Minister of State to the House. Graffiti is a real problem in cities and towns all over the country. One cannot travel through cities like Dublin, Cork or Galway without seeing the impact of graffiti on the public space. I am calling on the Minister for Justice and Equality to consider reintroducing the anti-graffiti programme that was in place up until 2009. Many people...

Seanad: Nithe i dtosach suíonna - Commencement Matters: Graffiti Policy (3 Apr 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: Graffiti is a problem across the country. Mr. Peter Horgan is a local election candidate in Cork. Yesterday he raised the issue of graffiti in Cork. It is what I call criminal damage done to householders. We are all too aware of it in our cities and town. Deputy Kehoe is Minister of State in the Department of the Taoiseach and I ask him to take one thing from the debate on my...

Seanad: Aircraft Noise (Dublin Airport) Regulation Bill 2018: Second Stage (3 Apr 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: Senator Norris made many of the points I wished to make. It is very clear that Fingal County Council has skin in the game if it receives €29 million in rates. Everybody in this House wants to protect Dublin Airport and its investment, but we have to take into consideration the local residents and the impact on them. They must be treated fairly. As Senator Norris pointed out, the...

Seanad: Aircraft Noise (Dublin Airport) Regulation Bill 2018: Second Stage (3 Apr 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: We must start from the premise that we want people to have confidence in the regulator from the word go. If the council is the competent authority, it will fight an uphill battle for the confidence of the local community. It is a reasonable requirement that the competent regulator in relation to noise should not have skin in the game. The sum of €29 million is significant.

Seanad: Order of Business (28 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I thank Senator Craughwell for his kind remarks on my views on Airbnb. Addressing this issue will not solve the housing crisis but at least if the proposal is implemented, it will result in approximately 5,000 new homes in the Dublin area. This is much more than what the Minister has achieved in his term of office. There is genuine concern about evidence-based policy on housing across the...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (Resumed) (27 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I will follow up on Mr. Creegan's answers on College Gate. I still hope College Gate is under consideration for a slight realignment relating to property around there. I know one of the sites creates a difficulty with the main sewer line but if that can be resolved, can the station be moved while maintaining integrated transport? I suggest that a proper costing be carried out on the sewer...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (Resumed) (27 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: May I have a point of clarity? In answer to Deputy Ryan, the NTA gave a timeline for the review. We are looking at a review at the end of 2020 which will then take two or three years. In fact, there would be no change if we were to stick to that timeline because it will be four years along and contracts will have been entered into. If it is to go further to the west or down to UCD, we...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (Resumed) (27 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I understand that. The Chair has been very good.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (Resumed) (27 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I would be interested to hear what Ms Graham has to say on the matter. It might save a little time.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport: BusConnects: National Transport Authority (Resumed) (27 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: The other option is the Rathfarnham corridor. According to the NTA's figures - they are not mine - there has been a 17% increase in bus journeys along that corridor. As a result of higher than expected movements of public transportation and buses, the level of passenger movement on the Rathfarnham corridor is now coming very close to what the Luas is serving on the green and red lines.

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (14 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: I thank the Senators and Deputies who attended the dementia information meeting in the audiovisual room yesterday. The stories of people suffering with dementia really hit home. There was a fantastic number of Deputies, Senators and their staff in attendance. This is no criticism of the Leader but I am sad to inform him that notwithstanding the undertaking the Minister for Health, Deputy...

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (14 Mar 2019)

Kevin Humphreys: What about the past two years?

Kevin Humphreys: Last night? What about the past two years?

Seanad: An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (14 Mar 2019)
