Seanad: Book of Estimates 2004: Statements. (26 Nov 2003)

Mary White: Yes. I was quoting Dr. William Harris of Science Foundation Ireland. Ireland is held in awe by countries around the world. At the parliamentary party meetings we stressed that Fianna Fáil members wanted to keep the CE schemes in place. The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment recently said: "Combined participation levels on community employment, jobs initiative and social economy...

Seanad: Book of Estimates 2004: Statements. (26 Nov 2003)

Mary White: The Senator will have trouble in life if that is the way he wants to go through it. I suspect he is just being funny.

Seanad: Order of Business. (27 Nov 2003)

Mary White: I support Senator Maurice Hayes's call for a debate on Northern Ireland before Christmas. We have deliberately delayed having such a debate for diplomatic reasons but it is critical now that such a debate be held.

Seanad: Road Traffic Bill 2003: Second and Subsequent Stages. (27 Nov 2003)

Mary White: I welcome the Minister and his officials. Without throwing bouquets at the Minister, his list of achievements in the Department of Transport is tremendous. I explained to my sister in the United States the position in Ireland regarding the saving of human lives and it is an understatement to say she was very impressed. I had three little points about which I had intended to write to the...

Seanad: Road Traffic Bill 2003: Second and Subsequent Stages. (27 Nov 2003)

Mary White: I will be brief. I was just dropped on the side of the road by Bus Éireann and had to return to that point to travel back to Dublin.

Seanad: Road Traffic Bill 2003: Second and Subsequent Stages. (27 Nov 2003)

Mary White: Excuse me. My point is very important because I am a firm believer in trade between here and Northern Ireland. What happened was cracked. My second point, which was raised with the Minister before, is that it should be acceptable to pay the toll on the motorway to the North in sterling. Sterling is accepted on the train, so why can it not be used at the toll station when crossing the River Boyne?

Seanad: Road Traffic Bill 2003: Second and Subsequent Stages. (27 Nov 2003)

Mary White: It is pathetic.

Seanad: Order of Business. (2 Dec 2003)

Mary White: I remind Members that both the Taoiseach and Prime Minister Tony Blair have said that the Good Friday Agreement of April 1998 is not renegotiable. People may be surprised by how pragmatic the DUP will be. It is a season of peace and goodwill. We should put the prejudices of the past behind us and send our good wishes. The Seanad should send a message to the parties in Northern Ireland wishing...

Seanad: Order of Business. (2 Dec 2003)
