When the first cancer strategy was established, it was headed by Professor Tom Keane, who had a direct line to the then Taoiseach if there were roadblocks. Is there any equivalent person to Professor Keane now? That key leadership role seems to be gone.

Róisín Shortall: Clearly, funding has fallen very short of what is needed. In five of the past seven years, there was inadequate funding and there is none for this year. What does the HSE do in such circumstances? How does it escalate the issue of a shortfall in such an important programme?

Róisín Shortall: The co-ordination of the whole strategy. I am finding it difficult to get a clear picture of what is happening. The Parliamentary Budget Office studied this matter and referred to the difficulty in accessing meaningful data-----
