Written Answers — Department of Children and Youth Affairs: National Lottery Funding Disbursement (10 Nov 2015)

James Reilly: ...in mind, I am working with my officials to put in place a scheme of modest one-off grants in 2016 for local projects or groups working with children and young people. Rather than using National Lottery funding, the scheme will utilise some of the additional Exchequer funding which I secured for my Department's 2016 Vote as part of Budget 2016. The scheme will be as simple as possible,...

Topical Issues: Child and Family Agency (25 Jun 2015)

James Reilly: ...this year. We would all like to give it more money and, with the Estimates process coming up, we will fight our corner. We gave the agency all the money we could, even giving up our national lottery fund to ensure we could maximise its funding, because it has to deliver the services on the ground. We must, without being overly political, acknowledge that we have come out of the worst...

Written Answers — Department of Children and Youth Affairs: Child and Family Agency Funding (13 May 2015)

James Reilly: The Deputy might wish to note that, since its establishment in January 2014, the Child and Family Agency has not administered any National Lottery Grant Scheme. In both 2014 and 2015 the exchequer funding provided to the Agency is directed solely at the provision of services. My own Department did administer a National Lottery scheme in 2014 but due to budgetary circumstances, and the...

James Reilly: ...help young people develop. The involvement of youth in these programmes is among the highest internationally, which reflects the excellence of the service. On the question as to why the national lottery funding is gone, in the cut and thrust of negotiations with the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform we let it go. It would not be absolutely true to say that by letting it go, we...

Written Answers — Department of Children and Youth Affairs: Departmental Funding (17 Feb 2015)

James Reilly: The organisation in question was not successful in its request to secure funds under the 2014 National Lottery Funding Scheme and was advised of this in writing by my Department in December 2014. Written Answers — Department of Children and Youth Affairs: National Lottery Funding Applications (5 Feb 2015)

In framing the Department's Estimate for 2015, regard had to taken of the many competing demands facing the sector and the overall budgetary envelope available. Committee on Health and Children: Select Sub-Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Estimates for Public Services 2015
Vote 40 - Children and Youth Affairs (Revised)
(3 Feb 2015)

James Reilly: I will deal with the Deputy's last question first. I cannot find the reference at the moment, but I know the answer to the question. That is national lottery funding and we decided this year that it would provide just a one-off lottery grant to various services. We made the decision together with the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform to forego that lottery funding in order to...

Committee on Health and Children: Select Sub-Committee on Children and Youth Affairs: Estimates for Public Services 2015
Vote 40 - Children and Youth Affairs (Revised)
(3 Feb 2015)

James Reilly: To be technically correct, we handed that money back to the Exchequer because the national lottery does not directly give us money; it gives money to the Exchequer which in turn hands it to us. We hand it back to the Exchequer when we do not take it. We got a reasonably good deal, in so far as for that €900,000 plus we got €26 million extra for the agency.
