Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Úsáid agus Infheictheacht na Gaeilge ar na Meáin Chraolta: Plé (21 Feb 2024)

Éamon Ó Cuív: B'fhéidir go gcuireadh RTÉ chugainn na figiúirí don dream a chuireann "Morning Ireland" i láthair, nó ceann de na cláir sin ina bhfuil a chomhionainn ann. Caithfimid coinneáil inár n-intinn i gcónaí go bhfuil i bhfad níos lú taighdeoirí agus i bhfad níos lú tacaíochta ag craoltóirí Raidió na...

Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Úsáid agus Infheictheacht na Gaeilge ar na Meáin Chraolta: Plé (21 Feb 2024)

Éamon Ó Cuív: Tá. Faigheann an Teachta Connolly go leor ama ar an teilifís de bharr go bhfuil sí sa chathair. Tógann sé ceithre uair a chloig go Baile Átha Cliath agus ceithre uair a chloig ar ais dom. Tá cothromas réigiúnach i gceist, freisin, go háirithe d’aon duine a bhíonn ag craoladh i nGaeilge, más féidir liom é sin a...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Energy Poverty: Discussion (Resumed) (21 Feb 2024)

Éamon Ó Cuív: I congratulate EnergyCloud. This is an innovative initiative. From the first time I heard about it, I was taken with it. I congratulate Clúid Housing on its involvement. Why does EnergyCloud seem to be concentrating on houses delivered through schemes, whether they are run by local authorities or Clúid? There are many people in houses they own who are poor, to put it that way....

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Energy Poverty: Discussion (Resumed) (21 Feb 2024)

Éamon Ó Cuív: I hear what Mr. Mullins is saying. Obviously, that is where we all want to go. Could the Government build into future wind farm licences a community gain requirement for surplus energy on the basis that it would be a win-win, as Mr. Mullins points out? It would be a case of using something that is there, not switching off the turbine. It would make a contribution, particularly to the host...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Energy Poverty: Discussion (Resumed) (14 Feb 2024)

Éamon Ó Cuív: I will be brief because I am sure a lot of what I have to say has been covered. There is the HAOP scheme, which is housing aid for older people. I deal with a fair number of older people with very poor houses. Before you do a BER rating, you have poor windows, poor doors and poor fabric. Before you do any insulation you have poor roofs and so on. The maximum grant, certainly in Galway,...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Energy Poverty: Discussion (Resumed) (14 Feb 2024)

Éamon Ó Cuív: I am asking what discussions Mr. Deegan's Department has with the Department of housing. The problem I always find with the State is that it operates in silos, as if there were 15 - or now 18 - Governments. There is only one Government and there is only one Oireachtas. My question was about what discussions the Departments have had.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social Protection: Energy Poverty: Discussion (Resumed) (14 Feb 2024)
