Inland Fisheries Bill 2009: From the Seanad (20 May 2010)

Liz McManus: I support that view and thank all those who have given great service and provided expertise, wisdom and local knowledge, very often at considerable costs in terms of time, over the years. An extraordinary contribution has been made, largely on a voluntary basis, some of which has been very useful in making decisions on planning, spatial planning decisions and all the rest. We have to move...

Order of Business. (20 May 2010)

Liz McManus: I have two questions on legislation. The Energy (Biofuel Obligations and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill is nearing Report Stage. The Minister, Deputy Eamon Ryan, attempted to tag on a new section concerning the carbon windfall tax, which had nothing to do with bio-fuels. Can the Tánaiste confirm that we on this side of the House have been successful in ensuring that there will now be a...

Order of Business. (20 May 2010)

Liz McManus: His specific words were that he would be bringing "legislative change". Is that the position? There seem to be mixed messages coming from the Government. It does not augur well in terms of public policy when there is such a split and confusion about a simple statement the Minister made.

Order of Business. (20 May 2010)

Liz McManus: Is it the Minister's intention to bring in legislation? If so, why is it not on the legislative programme?

Order of Business. (20 May 2010)

Liz McManus: In his press release, the Minister used the term "legislative change".

Order of Business. (20 May 2010)

Liz McManus: I did not introduce this. I am seeking clarification because the Minister has stated that he intends to bring in legislative change. What does that mean at this stage? No matter how one spins it, consultation is not legislative change. What exactly does legislative change mean?

Order of Business. (20 May 2010)

Liz McManus: No. It is about legislation, so this is the place and this is the time.

Order of Business. (20 May 2010)

Liz McManus: When a Minister makes an announcement, what is meant by legislative change? Will the Tánaiste please tell us exactly what it means?

Constitutional Amendment on Children: Motion (18 May 2010)

Liz McManus: I extend my condolences to the family of Daniel McAnaspie. Like others, I met his family members on the street outside Leinster House when they were exhausted from searching for him. We should all be conscious that he was one of 20 children who died in the care of the HSE. This makes our meaning clear when we discuss protecting children under the Constitution. It is appropriate, if not...

Liz McManus: The Minister, Deputy Ryan, has announced that he proposes to ensure a list of sporting events, including the Six Nations and Heineken Cup matches, will be free to air for television viewers in Ireland.
