Liz McManus: It needs to be factual.

Broadcasting Legislation (1 Jun 2010)

Liz McManus: What did she say?

Order of Business. (27 May 2010)

Liz McManus: There is a commitment in the programme for Government to make tackling climate change a priority. At the time a special Cabinet sub-committee on climate change was set up and we all understood that the Green Party was committed to ensuring that was part of public policy. In the first year, 2008, that committee met six times. In 2009, it only met twice and in 2010 it has not met at all.

Order of Business. (27 May 2010)

Liz McManus: Since the Government is not dealing with this issue and there is now only one political body, namely, the Joint Committee on Climate Change and Energy Security chaired by Deputy Seán Barrett, dealing with climate change, and in view of the fact that there is no sign of the promised climate change law from the Government, will the Tánaiste take the climate change law that has been proposed...

Order of Business. (27 May 2010)

Liz McManus: -----and have it in Government time? Otherwise, the issue of climate change is not being dealt with, and most people would be astonished that the Green Party commitment has simply crumbled away. We have no meetings of the sub-committee. Scant attention is being given to the joint Oireachtas committee-----

Order of Business. (27 May 2010)

Liz McManus: All we have is the promise of legislation but the Government has not given us any indication that the legislation is being published. I ask the Tánaiste to accept the legislation that has been put forward by the joint Oireachtas committee setting out the framework for tackling climate change, which is a duty on us internationally and also nationally, to ensure we live up to our commitments.

Order of Business. (25 May 2010)

Liz McManus: I have two questions. Today is International Missing Children's Day, and the European Commission has issued something of a criticism of Ireland, to the effect that the Minister has not activated the missing children's hotline, as have many other European countries. It is three years since the original decision was made and considering our record is so poor as regards missing children-----

Order of Business. (25 May 2010)

Liz McManus: Will the Taoiseach say when that is going to happen? My second question relates to legislation which deals with the imposition of windfall tax on electricity suppliers. This matter was originally tacked on to a totally different Bill, namely, the Energy Biofuels Bill, and I want to compliment our Whip on ensuring that as it is a financial Bill it will be taken separately. Will the...

Liz McManus: The C-word.

Inland Fisheries Bill 2009: From the Seanad (20 May 2010)

Liz McManus: I think the Minister of State is being a little bit provocative.

Inland Fisheries Bill 2009: From the Seanad (20 May 2010)

Liz McManus: I have a right to speak.

Inland Fisheries Bill 2009: From the Seanad (20 May 2010)

Liz McManus: Will the Minister of State please sit down and allow me to speak? It does not do his office any service. There is a certain misunderstanding in the debate. I welcome the two amendments that have been tabled because this is an area about which I have always been uneasy. I agree with the Minister of State's leader, the Taoiseach, Deputy Brian Cowen, when he defends the right of public...
