European Presidency: Statements. (20 Jan 2004)

Peter Kelly: The Irish Presidency will see the historic enlargement of the European Union to include ten new member states on 1 May 2004. This event marks an historic ending of the post-war division of Europe. It is important that this opportunity is taken to bring all Europeans together to build a better Europe for us all. The Irish Presidency programme has been drawn up in the context of the...

Dormant Accounts (Amendment) Bill 2004 [Seanad]: Second Stage. (3 Feb 2005)

Peter Kelly: I welcome the Government's position on dormant accounts. It was a good idea that this money would not be left lying in banks but that it would be distributed to people affected by economic, social and educational disadvantage and people with disabilities. I am glad the banks did not get their hands on this money which was not rightfully theirs. Banks have enough money. I compliment the...

Order of Business. (3 Nov 2005)

Peter Kelly: That is not correct.

Road Safety: Motion (Resumed). (9 Nov 2005)

Peter Kelly: This has been an interesting debate on an important subject. Despite the recent upsurge in road deaths, I congratulate the Minister and his Department on the marked improvement in road safety. The culture has started to change. Since the introduction of the first national road safety strategy, 1997-98, a change has taken place. Death and carnage on the roads was costing the country a...

Climate Change Targets Bill 2005: Second Stage. (29 Nov 2005)

Climate Change Targets Bill 2005: Second Stage. (29 Nov 2005)

Peter Kelly: There is no doubt in anybody's mind about that. The economy has been mentioned in this debate. Everybody recognises, and I thank the Opposition for recognising on numerous occasions, that the economy is in the best shape ever because this is the best ever Government to manage it. We have low taxes and high employment.

Climate Change Targets Bill 2005: Second Stage. (29 Nov 2005)

Climate Change Targets Bill 2005: Second Stage. (29 Nov 2005)

Peter Kelly: Ireland is the best country in the world. I compliment the Minister of State, Deputy Noel Ahern, on the fantastic job he is doing regarding housing. In County Longford, if it is left to the county council, the officials, councillors and other local politicians, there will be good housing records because the Minister of State has given the lead and has provided the money.

Climate Change Targets Bill 2005: Second Stage (Resumed). (30 Nov 2005)

Climate Change Targets Bill 2005: Second Stage (Resumed). (30 Nov 2005)

Peter Kelly: The Green Party, the Labour Party and Fine Gael have sensible Members, most of whom are present. However, I cannot believe the proposed Bill. The economy and jobs must be priorities for everyone. They are priorities for the Government. With such proposed legislation, the people will believe the Green Party has gone mad.

Climate Change Targets Bill 2005: Second Stage (Resumed). (30 Nov 2005)

Peter Kelly: That is bad enough but to think that Fine Gael and the Labour Party are joining it is something else.

Climate Change Targets Bill 2005: Second Stage (Resumed). (30 Nov 2005)
