Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32 (26 Feb 2008)

Terence Flanagan: I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the need for the Minister for Education and Science to include immediately Springdale national school in Raheny in her Department's school building programme. The Department sanctioned the rebuilding of the school in March 2001, but in spite of many promises and the assessment of the...

Order of Business (26 Feb 2008)

Terence Flanagan: On the property services regulatory authority Bill, despite the appointment in July 2006 of a director and staff and the allocation of a budget of €1.6 million, legislation has not been forthcoming. Planning Issues. (27 Feb 2008)

Terence Flanagan: I thank the Minister for his response. There is a major issue surrounding the taking in charge of housing estates and developers' bonds, which are too low in some instances, with developers walking away from new housing estates and not finishing them properly. There are, for example, many unfinished roads and substandard houses throughout the country. While local authorities carry out some...

Planning Issues. (27 Feb 2008)

Terence Flanagan: I welcome the circular, but the issue is the compulsory enforcement by local authorities. Given that 61,127 units have not been taken in charge, a sizable portion of housing estates, the process is not working. Home owners do not know their rights, including that local authorities must take their estates in charge if a majority of owners agree. It must be communicated to the people.

Broadband Services: Motion (27 Feb 2008)

Terence Flanagan: I welcome the opportunity to speak on this important motion and commend my colleague, Deputy Coveney, for tabling it. Unfortunately, there has been no sense of urgency to date from the...
