Select Committee on Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation: Employment Permits Bill 2022: Committee Stage (30 Nov 2022)

Damien English: I am not fully aware of what the issue is. I do not think the amendment is necessary because the people concerned have access to that general permit already. It is more a process issue or something like that. I am happy to tease this through with Deputies Nash and O'Reilly. That is no problem at all. I do not see the need for the amendment, but if we are missing something we will...

Damien English: For now, I must oppose amendment No. 39. I am waiting on some legal advice on it. We are keen to work on all recommendations that will further deflect employees from making unnecessary complaints. I am waiting to take legal advice. We will oppose it for now but we will give consideration to it on Report Stage. I am not in a position to take it now. I hope the Deputy understands that. ...

Seanad: Credit Guarantee (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second Stage (29 Nov 2022)

Damien English: I thank the House for facilitating the Bill this week, which I am pleased to bring forward. It was something that we discussed quite a lot here individually with Senators as well, who were asking for a scheme such as this in response to what happening with Ukraine and the pressure it is putting on businesses here as well. The scheme has worked quite well through the past couple of years in...

Seanad: Credit Guarantee (Amendment) Bill 2022: Second Stage (29 Nov 2022)

Damien English: I thank Members for their support for the Bill. We tried to have this debate last week. I recognise the support and co-operation I have had in bringing the Bill through quickly and without pre-legislative scrutiny. That was important, as I mentioned in the other House. The Bill seeks to...
