Departmental Agencies. (7 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: Service providers have not obstructed movement for seven years. The issue is one of a lack of money.

Departmental Agencies. (7 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: I am glad to hear the Taoiseach talking about value for money and we all support him in that. During the events of last week, however, this House discussed the financial crisis facing the country. The process agreed to by virtually all sides of the House was accompanied by serious concern expressed about the remuneration packages and bonuses of certain CEOs of the banks. It was, therefore,...

Departmental Agencies. (7 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: That is true but it is a State agency——

Departmental Agencies. (7 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: With due respect, this matter has infuriated the ordinary people in this country. Last night the Mater Hospital closed for an hour because it could not cope. There are people lying on trolleys up and down the length of the country.

Departmental Agencies. (7 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: Will the Taoiseach answer——

Departmental Agencies. (7 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: Will the Taoiseach intervene and ensure that public money is spent on patient services, not on bonuses?

Written Answers — Swimming Pool Projects: Swimming Pool Projects (2 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: Question 217: To ask the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism his views on funding an application for the proposed swimming pool (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [33035/08]

Order of Business (2 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: Given the fact that we are facing a huge medical legal bill with MRSA and C. difficile in our hospitals and with the Stop Infection Now volunteer group also examining consumer rights law to further claims, when will the Bill dealing with HIQA be introduced? Will it afford it the power to censure hospitals as at present is it toothless? I do not want to provoke the Ceann Comhairle who has...

Credit Institutions (Financial Support) Bill 2008: Committee Stage (Resumed) (1 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: The problems in the international money market and the uncertainty in the US are having a detrimental effect on Ireland's economic climate and exacerbating the Taoiseach's recession. There is a need to take action. Fine Gael has made it clear that it will support action taken to protect our financial institutions, which are of integral importance to our economic system. Such action will...

Dublin Port Tunnel. (1 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: I thank the Minister for his endeavours to protect the taxpayer. I wish to comment on the question posed by my colleague, Deputy O'Dowd, about the report and the Minister's reply concerning etiquette. This matter goes far beyond etiquette. Over the past year we have had a number of situations where reports have been held back or delayed. Despite mounting public concern, there has been a...

Dublin Port Tunnel. (1 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: I cannot understand how the Minister feels he can be doing his duty to the public who have a concern about using the tunnel.

Dublin Port Tunnel. (1 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: The question is why will the Minister not publish it? The answer he has given to date, concerning etiquette, is not satisfactory. People need to see the report and I would like to know why the Minister will not release it.

Dublin Port Tunnel. (1 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: Then why not release it?

Road Network. (1 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: I have a couple of comments before I put my question to the Minister.

Road Network. (1 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: I will always take instruction from you.

Road Network. (1 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: Having been so well advised, I shall proceed. The report today in the Fingal Independent shows that the port in Drogheda will have a capacity of 50 million tonnes. Currently, Dublin Port takes 30 million tonnes, while the port at Drogheda only takes 10 million tonnes. There will load on and load off facilities, which means many extra lorries.

Road Network. (1 Oct 2008)

James Reilly: I asked the Minister before about the M50. Are we wasting our time with these upgrades and all the hassle we have caused people? If we do not build an outer route, it will be chock-a-block again in five years. Deputy Varadkar told me that such a study has been carried out and that in five or six years the road will be chock-a-block again. I do not question the Minister's commitment to it,...
