Máire Devine: I seek clarification.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2016)
Máire Devine: I am sure everyone was taken aback this morning when he or she saw the ice sculptures on display outside Leinster House. They really brought home the fact that our planet was melting. This morning I also attended a briefing in Buswells Hotel organised by the Stop Climate Chaos group. It was an eye-opener. The format was great in that Deputies and Senators from particular electoral areas...
- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Nov 2016)
Máire Devine: Hear, hear.
- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Nov 2016)
Máire Devine: Given the passion and emotion that Trump caused and the shock we all felt in the pit of our stomach yesterday morning, I echo Senator Ó Ríordáin's view. However, a knee-jerk reaction is not positive. I think he is a bit naive, as is the SDLP leader, in saying we will not cross any threshold there. We need to be involved and we need to make sure we can do the best for this...

- Seanad: Order of Business (10 Nov 2016)
Máire Devine: Call for an apology.
- Seanad: Health (Amendment) (Professional Home Care) Bill 2016: Second Stage (9 Nov 2016)
Máire Devine: I thank Senator Colm Burke for bringing this Bill before the House. I wish to respond to a comment made about discharges from hospitals. How callous is the national director of acute hospitals in trying to persuade nurses to forcibly remove patients from their beds, but sin scéal eile for another day? Sinn Féin will support this important legislation which will safeguard and...
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2016)
Máire Devine: I hope Senator Neale Richmond, and everybody else, honked their horns when they drove past the teachers who were out on strike this morning.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2016)
Máire Devine: The EU-Canada summit on the toxic Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, CETA, was cancelled today as talks in Belgium failed to reach an agreement. An agreement was due to be signed today by the EU and Canada.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2016)
Máire Devine: I applaud regions of Belgium on their position, given the damage CETA will and can cause to society. It was voted on in the House and won by the acquiescence of Fianna Fáil Members when they realised the way the political wind was blowing. The areas of Belgium will come under considerable pressure until they concede to big businesses that undermine democracy and destroy basic rights....

Máire Devine: It is not fair to say that when Fine Gael is against public investment.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2016)
Máire Devine: That is terrible news.
- Seanad: Order of Business (27 Oct 2016)
Máire Devine: It is disgusting that strong-arm tactics such as blackmail have been used.
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 Oct 2016)
Máire Devine: Hear, hear.
- Seanad: Order of Business (26 Oct 2016)
Máire Devine: I echo the call for the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform to come to the House to outline the strategy regarding the industrial unrest. Indeed, we are facing a winter of discontent. I am also a little wary of Fine Gael and its privatisation policy for public services. We need investment, not disinvestment. I wish to bring to the attention of the House the data released by the...
- Seanad: Public Health (Alcohol) Bill 2015: Committee Stage (26 Oct 2016)
Máire Devine: On behalf of Sinn Féin, I welcome this debate. It is in the interests of public health. We all know the burden on the public purse and, in particular, the public's heath. This morning, there was a discussion in the Chamber about assaults on front-line staff and first responders, for example, fire-fighters, nurses, medics and gardaí. They usually respond to fires, accidents and...
