Martin Browne: I am inclined to agree with Deputy Buckley. This looks to be a very well laid out site. Problems arose when the council moved in first. I live in a council estate and I know what happens when there is no communication between the council and residents. However, as Deputy Buckley has said, there seems to have been no end of communication going on here. What was the reasoning behind...

Committee on Public Petitions: Public Petition on Housing and Homelessness in County Kildare: Kildare County Council (8 Dec 2022)

Martin Browne: The petitioner claimed that in 2007 houses were being demolished in order to gain access to the adjoining field. Is Mr. Creighton saying that was not the reason for their demolition?

Committee on Public Petitions: Public Petition on Housing and Homelessness in County Kildare: Kildare County Council (8 Dec 2022)

Martin Browne: The remedial works came after that. The petitioner says in 2007 the reason that was given to the residents for the demolition was to gain access to the adjoining field in order to build more houses, and to provide a roadway through. Can Mr. Creighton comment on that or was that before his time?

Committee on Public Petitions: Public Petition on Housing and Homelessness in County Kildare: Kildare County Council (8 Dec 2022)

Martin Browne: As we said at the start, and in agreement with Deputy Buckley, I encourage all councils to do as much communicating with the local community as possible, as Kildare County Council seems to have done. As I have said, I lived in a council housing estate myself and I know that, when houses become vacant, there is a mad panic and everyone has a theory as to why they are vacant. Communicating...

Martin Browne: I thank Mr. Creighton and Mr. Kelleher for coming to present to us today. The session has been very beneficial and, as has been said, this is an example of how councils should approach works going on in an area. Some councils have a lot to learn. I thank the witnesses again and wish them both a happy Christmas.

As was agreed in private session on 23 November 2022, the petitioner was informed that Kildare County Council was presenting at the Committee on Public Petitions public meeting today, Thursday, 8 December,...

Committee on Public Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (8 Dec 2022)

Martin Browne: I have a personal view, which is that this is another example of smaller hospitals being taken out of the system, putting more pressure on the bigger hospitals. We will see what the petitioner comes back with. Is that agreed? Agreed. Petition No. 20 of 2021 is titled: Why we need to dispel old illogical lunacy laws in Ireland, which have been amended and repealed. This is not enough....

Committee on Public Petitions: Decisions on Public Petitions Received (8 Dec 2022)

Martin Browne: It seems to be moving there. That is agreed. Petition No. 46 of 2022 relates to the names of registered political parties and comes from Mr. Jeremiah Murphy. This petition relates to a statement that all political parties in Ireland should “state their names in English on all their literature”.
