Pat Deering: I thank Mr. Fitzgerald. We have given the issue a good hearing and I thank him for being here. The solution to the issue probably lies with Europe rather than in this jurisdiction. Pat Deering: Without getting bogged down on this point, perhaps the committee could write to the other Department seeking clarification. I am not trying to cut across the witness's area of responsibility, but when a previous committee dealt with this matter in 2015 officials from that Department may have come before it. I am open to question in that regard but I believe that was the case at the time....

Pat Deering: Yes. We will look for clarification from the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. As Deputy Cahill suggested, we will look for the appropriate official who was dealing with it at that time to come before us in due course. I am conscious that we will have to suspend the sitting because there is a vote in the Dáil. I apologise for that.

Pat Deering: That is an important point and Mr. Monaghan made a point about this being a pilot scheme and the potential for it in the next RDP. That discussion needs to take place now. We look forward to inviting the witnesses back to update us on how the scheme goes during the year. We will suspend the public meeting now and then go into private session.
