- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Energy Charter Treaty and Energy Security: Discussion (23 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: I am sorry that I missed the start of the meeting but I have been catching up on the opening statements. I am sorry if this question has been asked already. There seems to be a real disconnect between power and people and between political power and energy power. I wonder what to do. I agree with the point about the investor-state dispute settlement and these courts. What we are...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Energy Charter Treaty and Energy Security: Discussion (23 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: May I ask one other question,?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Energy Charter Treaty and Energy Security: Discussion (23 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: Does Dr. de Boeck think that it could be modified so that we would be protecting renewable energy as opposed to fossil fuels?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Energy Charter Treaty and Energy Security: Discussion (23 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: The committee heard recently at another meeting that the treaty might be a good idea because it will protect investors in renewable energy. What does Dr. de Boeck think of that as a defence of the treaty?
- Written Answers — Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport: Transport Infrastructure Ireland (18 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: 156. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he will revisit the young adult travel card scheme in order that it includes commercial coach operators with the attendant good effects of opening up more routes and choice and increasing the opportunity for young persons to travel reliably on public over personal transport and tackle emissions; and if he will make a statement on...
- National Ambulance Service: Motion [Private Members] (16 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: I hear and appreciate what the Minister of State has said. Sinn Féin appreciates that she is not contesting the motion. We have to remember that our ambulance service is a critical service that everybody wants but hopes they will not need. I will never forget meeting a fireman who was on duty the night of the Stardust fire. He recalled that it was a very quiet night before all hell...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Carbon Budgets and Climate Action Plan: Engagement with Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications (16 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: Can you hear me?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Carbon Budgets and Climate Action Plan: Engagement with Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications (16 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: I thank the Minister. I watched COP26 with interest. I have to say I was surprised when the leaders of government and the chair himself, indeed, were able to be shocked. The large delegation of posh fossil fuel lobbyists was reportedly the largest delegation and when the leaders of governments asked them to pay nicely, they, basically, just said "No." I wonder at the surprise there....
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Carbon Budgets and Climate Action Plan: Engagement with Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications (16 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: We have to keep that in. My connection is going again. Sorry, I will try to speak as quickly as I can. Around electric vehicles, there is a large swathe of people who think that they can buy their electric vehicle and that will be their bit done. There is no recognition-----
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Carbon Budgets and Climate Action Plan: Engagement with Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications (16 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: We have to be prepared to oppose the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, CETA, as well. We have to oppose CETA.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Carbon Budgets and Climate Action Plan: Engagement with Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications (16 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: Can governments play more of a part in respect of the destruction happening in other countries? I am talking about the mining of cobalt, lithium and copper that we need for batteries that can be used for renewable energy purposes. Can they make sure human rights are not being abused in other countries? Governments have to be to the fore on this.

Réada Cronin: 139. To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment the advice and assistance his Department can provide to persons in north County Kildare (details supplied); if it is the case that to qualify for the grant all expensive work must be done in one go to get the BER to the necessary level thus putting it out of reach of many who wish to make these changes; if so, if his...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action: Carbon Budgets and Climate Action Plan: Engagement with Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications (16 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: I hope I have pronounced his name properly. He was talking about the blood copper, the blood lithium and the cobalt. He is absolutely right. There is too much greenwashing. There is too much razzle-dazzle and appeasement and not enough hard facts. It is up to the Government to speak about that when they are at the COP. It is up to the governments to do that, not the lobbyists. I was...
- Road Traffic and Roads Bill 2021: Second Stage (Resumed) (11 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: I welcome the opportunity to speak on the Bill. Sinn Féin will table amendments to certain aspects of it. When it comes to the dangerous and antisocial use of scramblers and quads it is good to see the Government is taking Sinn Féin's lead and making provision for something that is a scourge on many communities. On this side of the House we have been told for a long time it could...
- Parental Bereavement Leave (Amendment) Bill 2021: First Stage (10 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: I move: That leave be granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to amend the Parental Leave Acts 1998 and 2006 to make provision for an entitlement to bereavement leave to an employee who is a bereaved parent of a child who has died and to provide for related matters. I will share time with Deputy Louise O'Reilly. It is rare for Deputies to get to present a Bill to the Dáil. I...
- National Surplus (Reserve Fund for Exceptional Contingencies) Act 2019: Motion (9 Nov 2021)
Réada Cronin: As has already been stated, Sinn Féin will support this motion. As Deputies will know, we rejected the Act after our proposals on housing, for example, were rejected and it was decided the capital injection could be used for banking, the most over-injected, overindulged, perennially pampered sector in the State and one that still pays no tax. Given that we are dealing with a full-blown...
