Mattie McGrath: I also want to ask about a consultation document, not the one mentioned by Deputy Stanley but another one. The Minister made a promise in Clonmel some months ago, when he announced "Fiver Monday", that it would be €5 to register septic tanks. This was to commence on 1 April, April Fools' Day. The process for registration is not up and running and people cannot register for €5, even if...

Mattie McGrath: What about the increase in VAT?

Enterprise Support Services (7 Jun 2012)

Mattie McGrath: The Minister of State is a small businessman as I am myself. There is no point in codding ourselves reading out those figures and so-called facts. There have been tax increases. VAT went up which was a disastrous move.

Enterprise Support Services (7 Jun 2012)

Mattie McGrath: The former Minister for Finance, God rest him, put it up by 0.5% but it was an utter failure and he had to reduce it after six months. Putting it up by 2% was a disaster. Mattie McGrath: I met the off-licence representatives today, many of whom are being forced out of business because of the actions of the large supermarkets.
