Morris Tribunal: Statements (Resumed) (22 Oct 2008)

Alan Shatter: I heard with a mixture of interest and dismay the speech delivered earlier today by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Deputy Dermot Ahern, on this important issue. My only conclusion is that the Minister is a political gurrier unfit to hold ministerial office. He used an important report, the final report published by Mr. Justice Morris——

Morris Tribunal: Statements (Resumed) (22 Oct 2008)

Alan Shatter: I will not. The speech delivered by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform in the House this morning and the attack by him on a Member of this House and a former Member was a disgrace——

Alan Shatter: To make that his main offering on the Morris report——

Morris Tribunal: Statements (Resumed) (22 Oct 2008)

Alan Shatter: ——shows the level of political stupidity to which the Minister can descend. It was an outrageous misuse of this House to attack, in particular, someone who is no longer a Member, which is, so far as I am aware, contrary to the rules of the House.

Medical Cards: Motion (21 Oct 2008)

Alan Shatter: It is extraordinary arrogance to refer to one's colleagues as throwing rattles out of their prams.

Medical Cards: Motion (21 Oct 2008)

Alan Shatter: I rise in support of this motion. This was a callous and cold-hearted decision made by a totally incompetent Government. It was a decision applauded by every Member on the Government side of the House. They applauded the mugging of pensioners and the targeting of the elderly by the Government under the guise of saving funds.

Medical Cards: Motion (21 Oct 2008)

Medical Cards: Motion (21 Oct 2008)

Alan Shatter: They understood and believed that when Fianna Fáil decided to provide universal health care to the over 70s it was based on some principle. What they did not realise is that the only principle to which Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats espoused in 2001 was how to get elected as rapidly as possible and how to fool as many people as possible. There was no principled commitment to...
