- Health Service Budget: Motion [Private Members] (10 Jul 2012)
Mattie McGrath: I am delighted to contribute to this debate. I welcome the Minister of State, Deputy Kathleen Lynch. I compliment Deputy Kelleher for tabling this motion. Some have regarded this motion as a bit of a cheek coming from Fianna Fáil. This Government is almost 18 months in office and we have nothing but broken promises. I do not blame the Minister of State, Deputy Kathleen Lynch, because...
- Health Service Budget: Motion [Private Members] (10 Jul 2012)
Mattie McGrath: The Leas-Cheann Comhairle can wince as much as he likes, but it is time to call a halt to this. We have been under siege. What Deputy Colreavy described is happening throughout the country. Unfortunate people from rural areas and elsewhere are being thrown to the wolves by a system that is out of control, that is not fit for purpose and which the Minister said he would dismantle. The...
- Health Service Budget: Motion [Private Members] (10 Jul 2012)
Mattie McGrath: We need something to move this mountain of bureaucracy. It must be undermined. The Minister would be better off being here in the House instead of in Cyprus and dealing with the problems rather than running away from them.
- Order of Business (10 Jul 2012)
Mattie McGrath: I refer to the strategic infrastructure Bill. The Taoiseach informed the House last week that the national co-ordinating committee was meeting as a result of the flooding in Cork and elsewhere. I wish to speak on the plight of farmers and the tourism industry as result of the inclement weather. What action will be taken to compensate or to do something to help alleviate the desperate...

Mattie McGrath: Is that any better?
- Freedom of Information (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2012: Second Stage (6 Jul 2012)
Mattie McGrath: The Leas-Cheann Comhairle should have let him off because he is far more qualified to speak on this and probably better able to pay the bills to get the information. Anyway, we will not go there this morning. I am pleased to be able to speak on this Bill. I compliment Deputy Fleming for introducing the legislation. I am somewhat surprised by the comments of Deputy McDonald. I submitted a...
- Freedom of Information (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2012: Second Stage (6 Jul 2012)
Mattie McGrath: A number of requests that were made are evident in the Bill, as are changes to the way the system works. Deputy Ross and Deputy McDonald were right to refer to the costs. The number of freedom of information requests dropped significantly because of the costs. However, there should be a barrier for nuisance requests. It should not be too easy. The same applies to the planning process....

- Freedom of Information (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2012: Second Stage (6 Jul 2012)
Mattie McGrath: I just want clarity on the matter.

- Personal Insolvency Bill 2012: Second Stage (5 Jul 2012)
Mattie McGrath: I am also glad to the chance to speak on this Bill. I compliment the Minister, something I do not often do, on bringing it forward, however belatedly. It is incumbent on all elected public representatives in this House and the Seanad to tease this out and pass it as soon as possible. We are being watched and people are waiting with bated breath to see what we do. They are anxious for this...
- Personal Insolvency Bill 2012: Second Stage (5 Jul 2012)
Mattie McGrath: Of course I was. We have moved on. She would be welcome again. She visited Coolmore to see our bloodstock industry. I heard the Deputy visited recently as well. I hope he had a good trip to the sunny south east and the Golden Vale. This House should not be beholden to these desperadoes in the banks, the vast majority of whom are only interested in filling their boots. The whizz kids are...

Mattie McGrath: A number of gas Bills have been proposed, including the common arrangements for gas Bill. Bord Gáis Ãireann is transferring work to a company called Balfour Beatty. Subcontractors and employees have been treated shamefully.
