- Seanad: Seanad Public Consultation Committee Report on Farm Safety: Motion (15 Jul 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire agus na haíonna speisialta atá anseo sa Ghailearaí. Ba mhaith liom comhghairdeas a ghabháil leis na grúpaí ar fad a chur eolas chun cinn, go háirithe na Seanadóirí Ó Donnabháin agus Ó Conbhuí, a rinne an-obair ar fad ar an tuairisc seo. I welcome this important and timely report. Its importance...
- Seanad: Transplant Patient Services: Motion (15 Jul 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Cuirim céad fáilte roimh an Aire. I and my colleagues in Sinn Féin are acutely aware of the totally unacceptable situation regarding transplant patients in general and, in particular, the challenges now facing those awaiting pancreas transplant. My Dáil colleague, Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin, has been in touch with the Minister, with experts in the field...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: National Strategic Plan for Sustainable Aquaculture Development: Discussion (Resumed) (14 Jul 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Cuirim céad fáilte roimh na finnéithe agus gabhaim mo bhuíochas leo as ucht an cur i láthair. From listening to the hearings on the issue, we have the whole spectrum of opinion from those who would be in favour of open fish farms at sea and those at the other end of the spectrum who would be totally opposed to them. I would agree with the comments on the need to...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: National Strategic Plan for Sustainable Aquaculture Development: Discussion (Resumed) (14 Jul 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Perhaps the question should have been if that would have any detrimental impact on the wild stocks? Would it live equally comfortably with them?
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: National Strategic Plan for Sustainable Aquaculture Development: Discussion (Resumed) (14 Jul 2015)

- Seanad: Defence (Amendment) Bill 2015: Second and Subsequent Stages (14 Jul 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Ba mhaith liom tacú leis an mBille seo ar son Sinn Féin.Sinn Féin supports the Defence (Amendment) Bill 2015, which, as has been said, seeks to provide for the commissioned rank of Vice Admiral in the Defence Forces. The rank of Vice Admiral is the naval equivalent of the Army rank of Lieutenant General, and the holder of this rank has traditionally assumed the role of Chief...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: National Strategic Plan for Sustainable Aquaculture Development: Discussion (Resumed) (8 Jul 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: As I had to leave earlier for a vote, if any of my questions has been answered, the Chairman might let me know. There appeared to be a lot of common ground in what people had to say, which I was not expecting. I thought there would be a little more contention on the issues raised. It is good to see that there is a lot of common ground on them. An issue which has not been mentioned...

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I can check the record to determine whether it has been answered. I do not want to hold up the meeting.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Landing Obligation Update and Fishing Fleet Management: Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine (30 Jun 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Cuirim fáilte roimh an Aire. I thank the Minister and his officials for appearing before the joint committee. Based on the information provided by the fleet sub-segmentation lobby group, I get a sense that the Minister has not set out his position on this matter in any great detail. The group made a highly compelling case and I concur with all of the points made by Deputy Ó...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Landing Obligation Update and Fishing Fleet Management: Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine (30 Jun 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: The point that was raised with us over and over by the people who made the presentation, whose boat had gone down, was that this was primarily a safety issue. The Minister keeps going back to an implication that there is some sleight of hand with regard to those 18 boats, as if those people are using this as a means of getting more quota in the long run.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine: Landing Obligation Update and Fishing Fleet Management: Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine (30 Jun 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I think it is being suggested.
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions: Design and Layout of Ballot Papers: Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government (24 Jun 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I thank Mr. Falvey for updating the committee. It is good practice that we regularly revisit the petitions and issues raised with this committee and I welcome that some of our recommendations have been taken on board by the Department. It makes us feel that we are doing something right. If somebody is visually impaired or has a physically disability preventing him or her from marking the...

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Were there any complaints about the recent referendums? How were the changes received? Did the Department get any feedback on those? Were there any complaints around that?
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Ambulance Service Provision (24 Jun 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Táim ag ardú ceiste ar maidin a bhaineann leis an tseirbhís otharcharr i gConamara thuaidh. I raise the issue of the ambulance service in north Connemara, in particular in the Leenane, Maam, Kylemore, Renvyle and Clifden areas. An ambulance crisis steering group was set up in the area due to the concerns that exist and a number of meetings have been held with elected...
- Seanad: Commencement Matters: Ambulance Service Provision (24 Jun 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: I welcome the allocation of additional paramedics to the west but apart from that there does not seem to be much of a change in the situation and it will not assuage the worries of the people in north Connemara. Would it be possible for the Department to make the information on ambulance response times in this area available to me so that I can pass it on to this group in order that we can...
- Seanad: Petroleum (Exploration and Extraction) Safety Bill 2015: Second Stage (24 Jun 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Cuirim céad fáilte roimh an Aire Stáit. Tá brón orm go raibh mé beagán mall ag teacht anseo. Tá mé sásta go bhfuil an Rialtas tar éis admháil go raibh sé mí-cheart agus go raibh sé ag teacht isteach lena oiread fuadair agus lena oiread deifre air leis an reachtaíocht seo. Tá an reachtaíocht seo thar a...

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: That is for sure.
- Seanad: Order of Business (23 Jun 2015)
Trevor Ó Clochartaigh: Ba mhaith liom tagairt a dhéanamh don alt sa The Irish Timesar maidin ag Kitty Holland. The article refers to the cuts imposed during the financial crisis disproportionately hurting the disadvantaged and marginalised and it states that, according to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, they must be phased out. As we know, there were hearings in the past couple of...
