Seanad: Order of Business (4 Oct 2006)

David Norris: Did they have economic reports in the Dark Ages?

Seanad: Order of Business (4 Oct 2006)

David Norris: Hear, hear.

Seanad: Order of Business (4 Oct 2006)

David Norris: Hear, hear.

Seanad: Order of Business (4 Oct 2006)

David Norris: Not unnaturally I agree with part of what Senator Lydon has said. Although I have been long a supporter of women's rights, I do not see the European Court of Justice ruling as a women's rights issue. What we have heard in the Chamber this morning is political correctness gone utterly mad. The debate should be on length of service and not on an aspect of discrimination. If one accepts...

Seanad: Order of Business (4 Oct 2006)

David Norris: Yes and if one accepts equal pay for equal work, then the court is right. Of course women must take time off work to have children. What is also being considered is taking a year off for child-rearing. Why should employers be required to pay on the basis of experience that is simply not there?

Seanad: Order of Business (4 Oct 2006)

David Norris: I always enjoy Senator Mansergh's contributions but I ask him — a historian who comes from a stable of historians — whether he will tell the House when the last Exchequer reports for the Dark Ages were issued?

Seanad: Order of Business (3 Oct 2006)

David Norris: It is ironic that the House's consideration of the Road Traffic and Transport Bill 2006 coincides, as I understand it, with a meeting of the Joint Committee on Transport. Meetings of that committee are often scheduled to coincide with the Order of Business in this House. There...

Seanad: Order of Business (3 Oct 2006)

David Norris: It was substantiated by the Marty report which was confirmed by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

Seanad: Order of Business (3 Oct 2006)

Seanad: Business of Seanad. (6 Jul 2006)

David Norris: Can the Senator remember their names?

Seanad: Order of Business. (6 Jul 2006)

David Norris: Senator Leyden could do with a few himself to keep up his——

Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed). (6 Jul 2006)

David Norris: I am glad I was not involved in the paean of self-congratulation that occupied almost the first hour of the Order of Business. Members are reasonably well paid to do the job we do. I notice the Leader complimented herself on the tweaking of this week's business. I believe there has been far too much tweaking. I and others do not appreciate that having arranged our schedules to accommodate...

Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed). (6 Jul 2006)

David Norris: I was here for the debate, unlike Senator Hayes.

Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed). (6 Jul 2006)

David Norris: It is great to turn up for a vote even if one has not opened one's mouth during the debate.

Seanad: Order of Business (Resumed). (6 Jul 2006)

David Norris: I am grateful to the Cathaoirleach for redirecting my attention.
