David Norris: Did the Senator prefer Batista and the barons of the drug cartels?
- Seanad: Human Rights Issues: Motion (31 Jan 2007)
David Norris: President Bush will probably be impeached before that date. I welcome this debate and commend the Labour Party for tabling the motion; it has done the House a service. I have been involved in this area for some time, having proposed the establishment of a committee of inquiry into renditions. Although my proposal was agreed in the House, it was later sabotaged in a most astonishing and...
- Seanad: Human Rights Issues: Motion (31 Jan 2007)
David Norris: It is a disgrace to commend the Government for its full co-operation. The amendment also expresses serious concern about the "opaque manner" in which the TDIP committee reached an inflated figure of suspicious aircraft and commends the Government for its policy of early and proactive engagement with the US authorities. What rubbish. Condoleeza Rice is a busted flush and liar, as is George...
- Seanad: Order of Business. (31 Jan 2007)
David Norris: I understand Senator Brian Hayes raised the question of the urgent situation in St. James's Hospital and I wish to support what I understand he said. The situation is extremely serious. It would be wise if the Minister were able to come into the House to explain how this was arrived at and how it can be resolved. I have never attacked the Minister for Health and Children, Deputy Harney....

- Seanad: Order of Business. (31 Jan 2007)
David Norris: In that case, as I anticipate that the Leader will not be able to withdraw the amendment, I propose that the House deals with No. 34 first. Is that in order?
- Seanad: Order of Business. (31 Jan 2007)
David Norris: I will make such a proposal which I encourage Senators to support. The Government states it co-operated with the European Parliament's investigation to the fullest possible extent. It did not do so.
- Seanad: Order of Business. (31 Jan 2007)
David Norris: Co-operation is not a one-way street. If the other party clearly and publicly states the Government did not co-operate and refused to answer questions, the Government's approach cannot be described as one of co-operation. The amendment states the TDIP committee is under the impression that the Government directs the work of the Oireachtas.
- Seanad: Order of Business. (31 Jan 2007)
David Norris: The amendment refers to the Government having offered full co-operation. That is a downright lie. It commends the Government on its policy of early and proactive engagement with the US authorities. It did not pursue such a policy.

David Norris: My final point is that it is perfectly clearââ

David Norris: ââthat, to the shame of the Government, aircraft engaged in rendition flights were fuelled when returning through Shannon Airport.
- Seanad: Death of Former Members: Expressions of Sympathy (31 Jan 2007)
David Norris: I would like to say a few words on behalf of the Independent Senators in memory of the late Senator Yeats. My colleague, Senator Ross, also has particular reason for wishing to say a few words and I hope he might be indulged, with the approval of the House. Yeats is a name to conjure with. What a tribute it is to that family that the late Senator Michael Yeats emerged unscathed from the...
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Dec 2006)
David Norris: If others are not interested that is just too bad. Like the Government, they are probably suffering from what I can only describe as political attention deficit disorder. I hope the Government will concentrate on this issue because action on it is overdue. We now have an opportunity to deal with it. Both women in the case were gracious in their comments on the judge, even though they must...

David Norris: This State recognises Canadian marriages.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Dec 2006)
David Norris: I would not have much confidence. They might suggest people get out their canoes. Yesterday the Leader told me to get out my clippers.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Dec 2006)
David Norris: According to the Government, the proposals have been constitutionally proofed.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Dec 2006)
David Norris: Hear, hear.
- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Dec 2006)

- Seanad: Order of Business (15 Dec 2006)
David Norris: It is for the Senator's re-election, absolutely. Is an ironic "hear, hear" possible?

David Norris: I will add another ironic "hear, hear".
