Colm Brophy: I am not stopping the Deputy but allowing for the fact there is only a small number of us here I have gone to five minutes on this. I will hand back to Ms Geraghty.
- Committee on Budgetary Oversight: Scrutiny of Tax Expenditures: Screen Producers Ireland (24 Sep 2019)
Colm Brophy: We are going to keep this as tightly as possible, if we can, to the tax question and the tax incentive question. I appreciate that Deputy Boyd Barrett did go into other areas but I am conscious of the time. This is a budget committee and we are not revisiting the whole area of what the sectoral committee did earlier in the year.

Colm Brophy: I thank the Chairman. May I say at the outset that it is wonderful at the end of Mr. Harris's first year as Commissioner to be meeting him and having such a positive engagement with An Garda Síochána? I acknowledge as the Chairman did at the start of the meeting today, that since I became a member of the Oireachtas committee on Justice and Equality, we have had so many engagements...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Garda Reform and Related Issues: Discussion (18 Sep 2019)
Colm Brophy: That is the public element of the feedback, which is vital, but I also want the witnesses to tell us about the whole area of reservations, which we have heard about. It is justifiable for people who are working in a job to have reservations about change. How have the officers and civilian staff been deployed within those models? Do the representatives have any feedback yet on the officers...
- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality: Garda Reform and Related Issues: Discussion (18 Sep 2019)
Colm Brophy: That is interesting. I have heard anecdotal examples of the ability of gardaí in the Dublin area to identify a vehicle that is not taxed. Compared with what was there, it is such a change for gardaí to be able to stop someone instantly. The visibility of enforcement in the drink-driving area has quantifiably stepped up in the past 12 months. It is approaching the point it was at...

Regardless of the ups and downs, I believe we appreciate their work.
