- Leaders' Questions (14 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: This is a complex matter that arose in the House by way of a special committee on the impeachment of a judge a number of years ago. Deputy Ross, who was a Member of the Seanad at the time, will recall the endless decisions that had to be made in that case, although it did not reach a conclusion, as he is aware. As part of the reform of the legal system, including the courts, the Minister...
- Leaders' Questions (14 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: Nothing we say or do here will bring back Savita Halappanavar or make up for the loss of a wife and child. I do not believe we should say anything about this until we are in possession of all the facts. I do not want to decry in any way the capacity of the internal investigation being conducted by the Galway Roscommon university hospitals group nor to decry in any way the investigation...
- Leaders' Questions (14 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: I can confirm to Deputy Martin that the expert group report into the A, B and C v. Ireland case has been completed. The report was delivered yesterday evening to the Department of Health. The report has not yet been seen by the Minister, who is in Cork this morning. Obviously, he will read the report, reflect on it and bring it to Government when he is ready to do so.
- Leaders' Questions (14 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: I repeat that the matter of bankers' pay is under review by the Government with a view to action being taken. This process was begun by the Department of Finance. It has been added to by the Mercer group. I have no reason to believe that it cannot be produced before the budget and I do not see why not. It is a matter of intense interest for the public at large. I informed Deputy Martin...
- Leaders' Questions (14 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: I will go back to Deputy Adams's first comment again. He has a tendency to come here and comment on attitudes and everything else.
- Leaders' Questions (14 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: Naturally, he has a mandate. However, Deputy Adams was a person who drew expenses for attending a parliament that he never recognised across the water. He should not come in here with that attitude every day of the week.
- Leaders' Questions (14 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: I want Deputy Adams to understand that the Government has an intention of taking action on this matter.
- Leaders' Questions (14 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: Yes, and the Deputy has his baronetcy designation or whatever it is to go along with it.
- Leaders' Questions (14 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: Naturally, Deputy Adams has his mandate from the people of Louth. They are entitled to elect who they wish and they have elected Deputy Adams. I am simply reminding him of some differences of opinion he might hold with some other people here. Perhaps, in the absence of Deputy McDonald, when he replies he might clarify whether Sinn Féin segregates Irish society into little people and...
- Leaders' Questions (14 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: I do not categorise Irish people in any such sectors. Deputy Adams might deal with that as a matter of course, with his party position about the people whom he serves in County Louth and his party's other representatives around the country.
- Leaders' Questions (14 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: First, I would like to extend our sympathy to Praveen Halappanavar on the death of his wife, Savita. This is a case of maternal death in which a child has been lost, a mother has died and a husband is bereaved. That is a tragedy. It is true that we have exemplary standards in our maternity hospitals. The fact that this young woman lost her life is a personal and family tragedy. No words...
- Order of Business (13 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: The adoption Bill was published in tandem with the referendum Bill. It is a case of finding time in the calendar year to debate it. The Children First Bill will be taken very early in the new year. The Attorney General and her staff are working exceptionally hard on the child and family support agency Bill and we expect to process it very quickly. Obviously, we have set out a timeline for...
- Order of Business (13 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: I know Deputy Harris has a particular interest in this matter. I thank him for his support for the referendum. The legislation is complex. It is listed to be published this session but I am not actually sure whether this can be achieved. It has proven to be complex; suffice it to say that there is a great deal of work being done thereon. I cannot give the Deputy absolute confirmation...
- Order of Business (13 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: That legislation is already in operation, as the Deputy will be aware.
- Order of Business (13 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: The heads have not come to the Cabinet yet. Clearly, moving towards a European grid is a matter of considerable importance. The Deputy will be aware of the recent opening of the interconnector at Batterstown. This is a matter that the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has very much in hand. It will be next year before the Bill is published.
- Order of Business (13 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: The Bill has been to the Seanad and is awaiting Committee Stage in this House.
- Order of Business (13 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: In fairness, it is well down the conveyor belt.
- Ceisteanna - Questions (Resumed): IFSC Clearing House Group (13 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: We will keep it as a very objective forum.
- Order of Business (13 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: It is proposed to take No. 18, Fiscal Responsibility Bill 2012 - Report Stage (resumed); and No.19, Credit Union Bill 2012 - Second Stage (resumed). It is proposed, notwithstanding anything in Standing Orders, that the Dáil shall sit later than 9 p.m. and shall adjourn not later than 10 p.m.; the resumed Report and Final Stages of No. 18 shall, if not previously concluded, be brought to...
- Order of Business (13 Nov 2012)
Enda Kenny: It will be introduced next year. The decision on the matter of hospital groups will be taken by the Government in the next couple of weeks and there will be an opportunity for a full debate in the House. Some of what I have heard around the country about this issue has been nothing short of outrageous misinformation-----
