Brian Stanley: I ask about the guidelines and regulations for wind turbines. The Tánaiste answered a question from another Deputy on the matter. Will there be a regulation? - Income and Living Conditions: Motion (Resumed) [Private Members] (25 Feb 2015)
Brian Stanley: I welcome this opportunity to speak on the motion tabled by the Technical Group. Not only has there been a significant increase in income disparity and inequality in general since the economic downturn began, but there is no sign of things improving. This is not just our take on it as it is what the ESRI has shown. The Government may claim the economy is picking up, but the most recent...

- Topical Issues: Job Creation (24 Feb 2015)
Brian Stanley: I thank the Minister for his reply. He outlined the midlands as a whole, but that region is not outperforming anywhere else. It is lagging behind overall. In Westmeath, for example, 285 new jobs were created in IDA-backed client companies last year, whereas there were nine in Laois. In 2012, there was none in Laois but 177 in Westmeath. I am not picking on Westmeath, but I am trying to...

Brian Stanley: Yes. I welcome the opportunity to address this issue with the Minister; I note the Taoiseach is sitting beside him. I welcome the announcement of the €250 million fund to bring jobs to the regions but I want to highlight that the regions have been doing very badly. The region I am located in, the midlands, and County Laois in particular, has been on the back foot. I raised this...

Brian Stanley: I thank the Minister of State for attending this committee and I wish her well in her new position. There are so many issues in regard to rural Ireland that we could spend a week discussing them here. I represent County Laois and south Kildare is now part of the same constituency. The striking thing about this area is the rolling back and the absence of basic services. Monasterevin, for...

- Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht: Rural Communities: Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government (24 Feb 2015)
Brian Stanley: Given the importance of the issue and the scale of the problem, which we know is replicated throughout the State, in particular in the southern part, and the Minister mentioned counties Carlow and Kilkenny, while County Laois and south Kildare are affected by it as well, will she ensure that we have a service in place after June? I acknowledge we have a breathing space, but will the Minister...
