- Statute Law Revision Bill 2007 [Seanad]: Second Stage (28 Feb 2007)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: It is interesting that it has taken so long for us to get to this stage. I would have presumed this would have been one of the first items on the agenda either in 1922 or 1948, to repeal British or English Acts and to replace them with parliamentary legislation agreed by the representatives of this State. Great work is finally being done in this attempt to repeal a number of statutes which...

- Order of Business (22 Feb 2007)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I will be brief. I oppose the proposal because it is not a proper sitting day. If we are to sit on a Friday, there should be an Order of Business and questions to a Minister. It should be a full day.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Did the Minister ever give him any files?

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: The Minister is too friendly with him.
- Order of Business (Resumed) (22 Feb 2007)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I am looking for advice on a number of Bills. Has work commenced on No. 63 on the Government's legislative programme, which will allow the Director of Public Prosecutions to appeal against unduly lenient sentences? If so, how much progress has been made with it? When is it expected that the proposed family law and enforcement of fines Bills will be published? If the Bills will not be...

- Order of Business (22 Feb 2007)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Continuing a tradition, we oppose the use of the guillotine on this matter. There should be enough time. We should have extra sittings on other days of the week if required to allow Deputies have a full debate. Extra sittings should also allow for a proper Order of Business and questions to Ministers. The House has gone on too long dealing with matters which are not as urgent as some of...
- Order of Business (22 Feb 2007)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I oppose this proposal, first, on the basis that a guillotine is being imposed and, second, because of the import and impact the legislation will have on the House. It is not fully appreciated, not even by those who put together the explanatory memorandum. On that basis, every Deputy in the House should have an opportunity to examine this legislation properly and take part in a debate. I...

- Business of Dáil: Motion (21 Feb 2007)
Aengus Ó Snodaigh: I, too, have concerns over the time allowed for the debate. If the legislation is so important, we should have suspended all other business, thus allowing a longer period in which to discuss it. Rushed legislation such as this has a habit of biting back in the future. I hope this Bill will not be such legislation and that the judgment to rush it through in this fashion will stand to us.
